CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
ARCHITECTURAL BOARD OF REVIEW
MINUTES - JANUARY 21, 1987
I. ROLL CALL:
Chairwoman Case called the meeting to order at'5:05 p.m.
Present: J. Britton, M. Case, and D. Pattison
Also Present: Building Commissioner S. Spino and Clerk of Commissions
B. Oring.
II. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES:
D. Pattison moved to approve the minutes of December 17, 1986 as presented,
seconded by J. Britton, and unanimously approved.
III. SIGNS:
No items.
IV. OLD BUSINESS:
1) Suburban Glass and Tire, Inc., 23672 Lorain Road
Proposal to refurbish exterior of building. (Special permit granted
by Board of Zoning Appeals on December 3, 1986.) (Continued by
Architectural Board of Review on December 17, 1986.)
Mr. Purper, Jr. presented revised plan explaining that planters are
not shown but that they are considering a raised planter in the same
cedar material as the building which will extend from the west side
of the building to the bay door. Vinyl or canvas awnings will extend
4' over the doors in either a beige and brown stripe or a plain dark
brown. Diagonal cedar siding will be stained as close to the natural
color as possible. If the east side of the building cannot be cleaned
they will paint it. He presented pictures of rear of building showing
trees which obscure building from residences. Board prefers cleaning
the brick to painting it. Entrance doors and windows will be new,
existing overhead door will be painted to match either the cedar or
the brick. No signage is planned on the building, perhaps letters or
address on awnings. Pole sign will remain. Mr. Pattison suggested
keeping the planter away from the building, if there is room available,
and also stopping it somewhat short of the garage door, but continuing
to the east of the door. D. Pattison moved to approve as submitted
with the understanding that the masonry that is presently painted will
be cleaned up to approximate the condition of the unpainted masonry
and that if that does not work that you will then paint all the masonry
which would be 4 sides so that we end up with one continuous type wall
and it is our preference that it be cleaned and that the siding as
presented stained to approximate the natural cedar appearance with the
new trim and that some cedar faced planter boxes be added to the entire
front elevation where appropriate, seconded by J. Britton, and unanimously
0
