CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
ARTS COMMISSION
MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 18, 2019
ROLL CALL
The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. in Council's Caucus Room.
Present: Leah Rogalski-Davis, Sue Collander, Suzie Patton, Laura Simna, Janelle Zauner-
Hoffart, Keith Behrendt, Wilma Kepperley
Absent: Jackie Chavez -Anderson, Annie Kilbane, Stephanie Procter
Staff. Planning and Development Director Kim Lieber, Administrative Assistant Nicole Rambo -
Ackerman
REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND COMMITTEES
PTA Reflections
Leah spoke with Maureen Shear regarding volunteers to judge the 2019 PTA Reflections Art
Show. Sue and Janelle volunteered to judge the event on November 11 th, Keith would be a
backup if needed.
Aerial Photography
Leah spoke with Chad Hankins about free aerial photography and videography of City events.
Options include livestreaming on Facebook and unedited video footage. Leah suggested using
the service for Party in the Park or Noel and using some of the footage to create a PR piece. Leah
will follow up about day/night capabilities and using some sky painting images for an art gallery.
Friday Night Mics at Springvale
In general, the event was a great success. Janelle noted a lot of people left around 9:00 p.m. so
the last performers had few audience members. She suggested creating a flyer so attendees know
who the performers are. Keith estimated that there were about 75 people at the event. Kim did
not think a time needed to be included for the door opening since some people were very early.
Janelle suggested doing sweet or savory food next time since the pizza and caramel apple bar
were a lot together. Leah thought the lineup was very good and diverse and the Springvale
pavilion was a great venue, Janelle agreed. Kim believed it would be hard to host the event in the
smaller indoor space after having such a great event in the pavilion. Janelle said many of the
attendees she spoke with came because they saw the citywide text. There were also signs up at
Springvale for the event. Jason Meyers did a great job as the emcee and kept the event moving
even though one of the performers did not show up. For next year's events, one should be
scheduled at the beginning and end of summer, not on NOHS football opening night.
Yoga in the Park
There were about 50 people at the September event. Kim reviewed the total attendance since the
series started and the 2019 attendance was down significantly from 2018. Kim spoke with Jackie
and said there are many other outdoor yoga events available and she suggested doing an indoor
winter series. Jackie suggested offering additional information or demonstrations as part of the
event. Some ideas to include are healthy recipes, aromatherapy, juice and tea. Leah pointed out
that some of the promotion was lost since the 2018 instructor promoted the events a lot on her
