CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
ARTS COMMISSION
MINUTES OF FEBRUARY 19, 2020
ROLL CALL
The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. in Council's Caucus Room.
Present: Stephanie Procter, Sue Collander, Janelle Zauner-Hoffart, Wilma Kepperley, Jackie
Chavez -Anderson, Leah Rogalski-Davis, Keith Behrendt
Absent: Laura Simna
Staff: Planning Director Kim Lieber, Administrative Assistant Nicole Rambo -Ackerman
Guest: Bryan O'Malley
REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES
Keith moved, seconded by Wilma, to approve the Arts Commission minutes of January 15,
2020, motion passed 7-0.
REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND COMMITTEES
Yoga+
Jackie said the same amount of people were at the February event. She thought the vendors did
well and they came well prepared for the event. Kim suggested opening the doors at 9:30 in the
future and having yoga start at 10:00 since some people misunderstood the start time. She also
thought having an hour of yoga with a shorter presentation may be better since people don't have
patience for a long talk after yoga ends. Perfectly Imperfect will be presenting at the March 14th
event and the vendors are being finalized.
Mayor's Art Show
Sue thought the event was excellent and loved that all of the students and teachers were smiling
and enjoying the event. She suggested getting a few more panels to hang art in the future.
Keeping the same theme and logo would save money. The transformation of Old Town Hall was
amazing. About 30 people came to the Friday evening gallery hours and 20-25 people came to
the Saturday gallery hours. Some of these people were unable to make it on the gallery opening
event and others saw the promotion and wanted to check it out. Kim thought the second room
can be used for more art since it was not used much, Sue thought it could be used for a small
activity during the gallery hours. Consider collaborating with JoAnn DePolo for a gallery hop
event next year. Wilma estimated that 75-100 people were at the gallery opening since people
were coming and going throughout the event and the weather was not ideal. The viola players
were a great addition to the event. Kim thought the paper invitations that were mailed to some of
the key community members worked well since some school board, council members and a few
others stopped by the event. Wilma thought Springvale may be an option for the art show if it
grows in the future.
City Hall Art Gallery
Kim said the City Hall Art Gallery will temporarily stopped to prevent damage to art due to
ongoing construction projects. They should wrap up in July and the commission can revisit
