Planning and Community Development Director Kim Lieber, Administrative Assistant
Nicole Rambo -Ackerman
Mr. Schumann moved, seconded by Mr. Morse, to excuse the absences of Ms. Schuler and
Ms. Cardarelli, motion passed 7-0.
REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Mr. Dubowski moved, seconded by Mr. Schumann, to approve the Landmarks
Commission minutes of August 10, 2020, motion passed 7-0.
NEW BUSINESS
20-17538; Johanna Oblov; 26010 Butternut Ridge Road
No representatives were present.
Mr. Neville said most of the homes built in the Victorian -era had slate roofs but may have had
metal roofs. He added that the roof has already been changed to asphalt shingles. Mr. Morse
thought the proposal is clearly a change to the existing roof but he did not think it would be
inappropriate since standing seam metal roofs would have been available at the time the house
was built. Mr. Neville wanted to know if the applicants considered installing a slate roof but that
would be more of concern if the owners were restoring the property. Mr. Gearhart pointed out
that the porch will have the metal roof installed as well. Mr. Schumann supported installing
metal roofs that look like shingles, especially if it looks appropriate. Mr. Dubowski did not think
the new roof would change the look of the home unless you were close enough to touch it. Mr.
Neville agreed that it would not change the appearance, but it may sound different in the rain.
Ms. Lieber said the roof material is not a building code issue, but it may need to meet other
specifications in order to obtain building permits.
Mr. Schumann moved, seconded by Mr. Gearhart, to approve the Certificate of
Appropriateness for a metal roof for 20-17538; Johanna Obloy; 26010 Butternut Ridge
Road, motion passed 7-0.
COMMUNICATIONS
North Olmsted: Remember When?
