CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2005 — 98 <br />By: Mayor O'Grady <br />A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF OF POLICE TO APPLY <br />FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT GRANT FUNDS FROM THE STATE OF <br />OHIO FOR DRUG ABUSE RESISTANCE EDUCATION (DARE) FOR <br />FISCAL 2005 -2006 AND, IF THE APPLICATION IS GRANTED, FURTHER <br />AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH <br />THE STATE OF OHIO, OR THE APPROPRIATE STATE OF OHIO LAW <br />ENFORCEMENT AGENCY, TO ACCEPT SAID GRANT FUNDING ON <br />BEHALF OF THE CITY, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, upon the initiative and recommendation of Chief of Police George Ruple, <br />and with the assistance and ingenuity of DARE officer Glenn Adamson (Officer "A "), the North <br />Olmsted Police Department has operated Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) since 1993; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the DARE program has enjoyed tremendous success for these past twenty <br />years, providing direction and guidance to the youth of the North Olmsted community on the <br />harmful effects of substance abuse, collaborating with the both public and private schools to <br />educate children; and <br />WHEREAS, the State of Ohio now offers, by and through Law Enforcement Grants and <br />the DARE Grant Program, an opportunity to provide the City with matching funds to defray the <br />costs of the DARE program, including up to 50% of an officers salary (Program Grant <br />Application on file in NOPD and available on request); and <br />WHEREAS, it is the desire of this Council to continue and support the DARE Program <br />operated by the NOPD for the benefit of North Olmsted children and to therefore authorize the <br />DARE grant program application and Agreement; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA, AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That this Council does hereby authorize and direct the Chief of Police to <br />apply for a one -year (2005 -2006) DARE Program Grant, also referred to as a Law Enforcement <br />Grant, pursuant to the applicable provisions of State law, in order to support and defray the costs <br />of operation, including salary, for the North Olmsted DARE program; and further, upon an <br />award of a said DARE Program Grant, this Council authorizes the Mayor to enter into an <br />Agreement on behalf of the City of North Olmsted with the State of Ohio, and/or appropriate <br />State law enforcement agency, thereof to accept the DARE Program Grant, on the State's terms <br />and conditions, and in a form approved by the Director of Law. <br />
