CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED RESOLUTION NO. 2005 — 98 By: Mayor O'Grady A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF OF POLICE TO APPLY FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT GRANT FUNDS FROM THE STATE OF OHIO FOR DRUG ABUSE RESISTANCE EDUCATION (DARE) FOR FISCAL 2005 -2006 AND, IF THE APPLICATION IS GRANTED, FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE OF OHIO, OR THE APPROPRIATE STATE OF OHIO LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY, TO ACCEPT SAID GRANT FUNDING ON BEHALF OF THE CITY, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, upon the initiative and recommendation of Chief of Police George Ruple, and with the assistance and ingenuity of DARE officer Glenn Adamson (Officer "A "), the North Olmsted Police Department has operated Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) since 1993; and WHEREAS, the DARE program has enjoyed tremendous success for these past twenty years, providing direction and guidance to the youth of the North Olmsted community on the harmful effects of substance abuse, collaborating with the both public and private schools to educate children; and WHEREAS, the State of Ohio now offers, by and through Law Enforcement Grants and the DARE Grant Program, an opportunity to provide the City with matching funds to defray the costs of the DARE program, including up to 50% of an officers salary (Program Grant Application on file in NOPD and available on request); and WHEREAS, it is the desire of this Council to continue and support the DARE Program operated by the NOPD for the benefit of North Olmsted children and to therefore authorize the DARE grant program application and Agreement; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA, AND STATE OF OHIO: SECTION 1: That this Council does hereby authorize and direct the Chief of Police to apply for a one -year (2005 -2006) DARE Program Grant, also referred to as a Law Enforcement Grant, pursuant to the applicable provisions of State law, in order to support and defray the costs of operation, including salary, for the North Olmsted DARE program; and further, upon an award of a said DARE Program Grant, this Council authorizes the Mayor to enter into an Agreement on behalf of the City of North Olmsted with the State of Ohio, and/or appropriate State law enforcement agency, thereof to accept the DARE Program Grant, on the State's terms and conditions, and in a form approved by the Director of Law.
