Aft, <br />? <br />CITY OF NORTIf OLMSTED <br />ORDINANCE NO. 2007 -101 <br />BY: Mayor O'Grady <br />AN ORDINANCE A UTHORIZING THE DIRECTOR OF LA W <br />TO REQUEST PROPOSALS FROM ATTORNEYS AND LAW <br />FIRMS TO PRO VIDE O UTSIDE LEGAL SER VICES FOR <br />THE YEARS 2008-2009; AND FURTHER AUTHORIZING <br />THE MAYOR, SUBJECT TO APPROVAL OF THE BOARD <br />OF CONTROL, TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH <br />THE ATTORNEYS AND/OR LAW FIRMS SELECTED IN <br />THE RFP PROCESS. <br />WHEREAS, the North Olmsted Charter, Article V, Section 2, provides for the <br />Director of Law to request the services of outside legal counsel to assist him or her in <br />carrying out the performance of his or her duties; and <br />WHEREAS, the Director of Law from time to time, and often under severe time <br />constraints, must retain the assistance of outside legal counsel to provide important legal <br />services to the City in areas of the law that are highly specialized; and <br />WHEREAS, the Director of Law has recommended to this Council that it <br />authorize him, pursuant to the provisions of Sections 111.03 of the North Olmsted <br />Codified Ordinances, to initiate an RFP process to select outside counsel in various <br />specialized areas of the law, to wit: civil litigation, criminal and traffic law prosecution, <br />environmental law, labor/employment law, telecommunications and utilities law, and <br />workers compensation law, to assist the Director of Law, as needed, during the years <br />2008-2009; and <br />WHEREAS, in accordance with the recommendation of the Director of Law, it is <br />the desire of this Council to authorize the Director of Law to request proposals from <br />attorneys and law firms to submit proposals to provide said outside legal services, as <br />needed, during the years 2008-2009, and further to authorize the Mayor to enter into an <br />agreement with the attorneys and/or law firms selected in the RFP process and approved <br />by the Board of Control; <br />
