ARTICLE 8- PROBATIONARY PERIOD <br />Section 1. New employees shall be considered to be an probation for a period of One <br />Hundred and Eighty (180) calendar days. During the probationary period; discharge or <br />suspension by the City shall not be subject to the grievance procedure. <br />Section 2, If any employee is discharged, retires, or quits during the probationary <br />period described in Sectian 1 above, and is later rehired, he shall be considered as a new <br />employee and the subject to the provisions of Section 1. <br />ARTICLE 9- SENIORITY <br />Sect+on 1, Only regular full-time and regular part-time employees of the City shafl have <br />seniority. Students and summer employees shall have no seniority rights. A regular part-time <br />employee is one that works more than twenty (20) hours per week, but less than forty (40) <br />hours per week on a regular basis. A regular full-time emplayee is one who is scheduled for <br />forty (40) hours of work per week. <br />Section 2. Seniority shall mean an employee's uninterrupted fength of continuous <br />service with the City measured from his last hiring date as a regular part-time/full-time <br />empfoyee. An employee shall have no seniority for the probationary period provided in Article 8, <br />Section 1, but upon completion of the probationary period, seniority shall be retroactive to the <br />date of hire. Seniority will be accrued for regular part-time employees on actual hours worked. <br />Section 3. The City shall provide the Union with a copy of the seniority lists and these <br />(ists shafi be updated every six (6) months. The seniority lists shall be made up by <br />classifications and sha!l contain in order of date of hire, the name, department, date of hire and <br />classification seniority date of each employee. Seniority fists shal( be posted on each Union <br />Bulletin Board. <br />Secfion 4, Continuous service and seniority shall be broken when an employee: <br />(a) Quits or resigns; <br />(b) !s discharged for just cause; <br />9
