EXHfBfT B-10 <br />JOB CLASSIFICATION OPERATOR <br />RESPONSIBLE TO OPERATIONS FOREMAN <br />NATURE OF WORK: <br />This is routine, skilled and semi-skilled work, assisting in shift operation of wastewater treatment and <br />pumping equipment and facilities at the municipal wastewater treatment piant and pumping stations. <br />Work involves responsibility for routine and emergency operations; servicing and cleaning of <br />buildings and grounds as well as a variety or specialized equipment and apparatus in a pumping station and <br />wastewater treatment plant. Duties include the operation of pumps, motors, and the reading and recording <br />of appropriate meters and gauges at regutarfy scheduled intervals in and around pump and treatment <br />plants. lncumbents are required to become thoroughly trained on assigned equipment under normal and <br />emergency conditions. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Assistant Superintendent - <br />Plant Operations and is reviewed through inspection of plan# records, equipment and facilities, and <br />observation and tests of plant efficiencies and effectiveness. <br />EXAMPLES C)F WORK: <br />• Reads log book of previous shift operations to determine the occurrence of conditions requiring special <br />attention during his shifts. <br />• Tours and inspecfis assigned pump station and treatment plant as required: <br />checks out equipment and collects appropriate wastewater samples during various phases of the <br />treatment process; checks flow charts to determine that flow is to desired volume; checks ink supply <br />and flow pens and replenishes and adjusts as necessary. <br />• Turns electrically operated pumps on and off in accardance with a prescribed schedule or specific <br />instructions; reads meters; changes log and recorder sheets and makes periodic entries thereon. <br />• Performs such general custodial work as mopping floors, washing windows, painting equipment, <br />keeping machinery free of dust and oil, and shoveling snow. <br />• Maintains vigilance over operating equipment and recording devices at pumping stations; starts up <br />emergency pumps and annually resets control devices to maintain pumping and treatment operations <br />during power failure and emergency conditions. <br />61
