<br />Ordinance No. 200443 <br />SECTION 1. Pursuant to Article XVIII, Sections 9 of the Ohio Constitution, and Article XII <br />of the Charter of the City of North Olmsted, this Council authorizes and directs that the following <br />proposal to amend the Charter of the City of North Olmsted be submitted to the electors of the City <br />of North Olmsted at a special election to be held at the usual places of voting in the City on Tuesday, <br />November 2, 2004: <br />That Article VII, Section 6 of the Charter be amended by revising the qualifications of <br />members of the Landmarks Commission, so that, as amended, Section 6 of Article VII sha11 read as <br />follows: <br />"Article VII <br />BOARDS AND CONMSSIONS <br />SEC. 6. CITY LANDMARKS COMMISSION. <br />(a) Membership. The City Landmarks Commission shall consist of nine members, six of <br />whom shall be appointed by the Mayor and subject to confirmation by Council. The remaining <br />three members shall be selected as follows: one appointed by Council, one member of Council, <br />and one member of the Planning Commission. <br />(b) Qualifications. All of the Mayor's six appointees and the Council's one appointee shall <br />have a demonstrated special interest, experience, or knowledge in history, architecture, or related <br />disciplines. In addition, Council's appointee shall be a resident of the City of North Olmsted, and <br />at least four of the six appointees of the Mayor shall be residents of the City of North Olmsted. <br />The remaining two of the Mayor's six appointees shall be preservation-related professionals, who <br />reside in the City of North Olmsted if the Mayor determines that such professionals are, in fact, <br />available in the community. If no preservation-related professionals are available in the <br />community, as determined by the Mayor, then the Mayor may appoint preservation-related <br />professionals who reside outside of the City of North Olmsted. <br />(c) Terms. Each appointed member sha11 serve a term of two years and may be re- <br />appointed. The six appointments by the Mayor shall be staggered, with the Mayor making three <br />appointments effective January of each year. All vacancies on the City Landmarks Commission <br />shall be filled within sixty (60) days. <br />(d) Powers and Duties. The City Landmarks Commission shall have such powers and <br />duties as the Council, from time to time, shall grant to it by ordinance. <br />SECTION 2. If the foregoing proposal receives the affirmative vote of a majority of the <br />electors voting thereon, then the said amendment to Article VII, Section 6, of the Charter shall be <br />effective as of the earliest date provided by law. <br />2 <br />
