Ordinance No. 2002-106 <br />"Article VII <br />BOARDS AND C0NMSSIONS <br />SEC. 6. CITY LANDMARKS COMMISSION. <br />(a) Membership. The City Landmazks Commission sha11 consist of nine members, sux of <br />whom sha11 be appointed by the Mayor subject to confirmation by Council. 'Che remaining three <br />members shall be selected as follows: one appointed by Council, one member of Council, and one <br />member of the Pianning Commission. Each member of the City Landmarks Commission sha11 be a <br />qualified elector of the municipality and, with the exception of the Council representative, at least five <br />members sha11 be further qualified as having a demonstrated special 'urterest, experience or knowledge <br />in historical a.rchitecture. In addition to the foregoing qualifications, to the extern that preservation- <br />related professionals (defined as the professions of architecture, architectural history, archaeology, <br />or planning) aze available in the community, at least two (2) members, with the exception of the <br />Council representative, sha11 be preservation-related professionals. No appointment shall be made <br />by the Mayor or Council without first insuring that the aforesaid qualifications have been met by the <br />then existing complement of the Commission membership or would then be satisfied by such <br />appointmern. Each appointed member sha11 serve for a term of two yeazs and may be re-appoirrted, <br />with the terms of inembership staggered bi-annually, and any vacancy shall be filled within 60 days. <br />The Mayor shall make three (3) of six (6) appointments, as provided for herein, every other year. <br />SECTION 2. If the foregoing proposal receives the affirmative vote of a majority of the <br />electors voting thereon, then the said amendment to Article VII, Section 6(a), of the Charter shall <br />be effective as of the earliest date provided by law. <br />SECTION 3. It is the desire of the Council that the ballot for said question shall be in <br />substantially the following form: <br />PROPOSED CHARTER AMENDMENT <br />A majority affirmative vote is necessary for passage. <br />Shall Article VII, Section 6(a) of the City Charter be aznended so as <br />to require, with the exception of the Council representative, that at <br />least five (5) members of the City Landmarks Commission have a <br />demonstrated special interest, experience or knowledge in historical <br />architecture and, to the extent available, that at least two (2) <br />preservation-related professionals be among the membership of the <br />2
