14.06 Any abuse of sick leave or the unjListified patterned use of sick leave shall be just and <br />sufficient cause for discipline, including discharge, as may be determined by the Enlployer, <br />subject to the grievance and arbitration procedure. <br />14.07 All employees shall receive three (1) eight (8) hour days off, or the employee may elect <br />to receive twenty-four (24) hours pay for each six (6) consecutive nlonths of unused sick leave. <br />Unused sick leave days earned may be carried over to a new year with a maximum accumulation <br />of sia (6) days (48 hours). <br />14.08 Accumulated unused sicl: leave time may be convened at the time of retirement, <br />disability retirenlent, or death of an employee. The payment far all those who qualify under this <br />Section shall be based upon the rate of pay of the employee at the time of his retirement, <br />disabiliry retireinent or death, and paymeilt shall amount to five-eighths (5/8) of the unused <br />accumulated siek leave tiine. The inaximuin amount paid for accumulated unused sick leave <br />time and accrued compensation tiine ("comp time") shall not exceed one thousand five hundred <br />(1500) hours in total. <br />14.09 Einployees inay use up to fifteen (15) work days per year of earned and accumulated sick <br />leave if necessitated by illness in the employee's immediate family. However, if an employee <br />Lises inore than seven (7) sick work days per calendar year for this purpose, the Employer may <br />requue that the employee provide a certificate froin the immediate family' member's doctar(s), <br />explaining the need and purpose of the employee's absence. For purposes of this subsection, <br />"irmllediate family" shall be interpreted to be spouse, children, parents of the einployee, <br />regardless of the place of residence; and other relatives living within the housellold of the <br />employee. <br />14.10 If an einployee is absent on sick leave or other related reasons for tnore than three (3) <br />consecutive work days and said absence qualifies under the FMLA, the City inay apply those <br />days against the twelve (12) week leave period. <br />ARTICLE XV BEREAVEMENT LEAVE <br />15.01 All employees shall be granted bereavemei7t leave accardiizg to the following schedule: <br />15.02 Upon the death of an iininediate family member, five (5) days; and, <br />15.03 Upon the death of a family meillber three (3) days. <br />15.04 For the purposes of this article, immediate fainily nlember shall mean: Husband, wife, <br />child, parent, brother or sister of employee and parents of spouse of the employee. Family <br />member shall mean: Brother or sister of spouse, grandparents, grandparents of spouse, <br />grandchild as well as any relative living in the employee's home. <br />15.05 Bereavement leave shall be exclusive of sick tiine or any other accunlulated time.
