a <br />ON*"''40%? <br />14?1 1.z1W <br />1163.03 PLANNING AND ZONING CODE 138 <br />(q) "Unit Frontage" or "Building Unit Frontage" shall mean the linear dimension of <br />the width of the widest portion of the building unit face including all appurtenant <br />overhangs or other structures, either: <br />(1) Closest to parallel to the principal street or <br />(2) Containing the primary building unit entrance, of any building on any <br />lot. <br />Where a building unit is bounded by a party wall or walls, the measurement of <br />width shall be to the centerline(s) of such wall or walls. <br />(r) "Alter" shall mean to change in any way, including but not limited to <br />reconstruction, redesign, reillumination that changes the lighting design, sign <br />face replacement that changes the sign face design, sign face change, and <br />painting in a different color than the present color, excluding changes in <br />changeable copy on signs. <br />(s) "Other Advertismg Structure" shall mean any marquee, canopy, awning, <br />campanile, gazebo, kiosk or street clock servmg to unage, identify or promote a <br />commercial enterprise. <br />(t) "Pemuttee" shall mean a person receiving an erection permit pursuant to the <br />provisions of this chapter. <br />(u) "Person" shall be mean any individual, corporation, business trust, estate, trust, <br />partnership, limited liability company, or other association. <br />(v) "Erect" shall mean to build, construct, alter, relocate, modify, attach, hang, <br />place, suspend, or affix, and shall also include the painting of signs. <br />(Ord. 2001-109. Passed 10-16-01.) <br />1163.03 PERMIT REQUIRED. <br />(a) Except as provided in Section 1163.04, it shall be unlawful for any person to <br />erect any sign or other advertising structure without first obtaining an erection permit from the <br />Building Commissioner and making payment of the fee required by Section 1163.07. <br />(b) . No permit is required for repair, repainting, or other maintenance that does not <br />alter a sign. <br />(Ord. 2000-12. Passed 5-2-00.) <br />1163.04 EXEMPTIONS TO PERMIT REQUIREMENT. <br />The following signs are exempt from the permit requirement conta.ined within Section <br />1163.03: <br />(a) Signs that are an integral part of the original construction of vending or similar <br />machines, fuel pumps or sunilar devices; <br />(b) Cornerstones, dedications and other similar building plaques or architectural <br />elements incorporated into a building, in materials and colors compatible with <br />the building design, displaying only the building's name, owner's name, <br />architect's name, date(s) of construction, brief dedication or other historical <br />information, and not exceeding eight (8) square feet in total area; <br />2002 Replacement <br />
