?b ..,
?Similar Project Experience 6-1
nce
Mettaff & Eddy
As illustrated below, M&E provides to North Olmsted all of the elements needed to successfully
complete your centrifuge project.
• Centrifuge design and construction experience; and
• Experience working with North Olmsted personnel at your WWTP.
The project summaries presented below provide M&E's experience in more detail.
Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvements, City of North Olmsted, Ohio
The North Olmsted WWTP is implementing a series of plant modifications to improve
operability, malcunize capacity from existing facilities, reduce odors complaints, and reduce
operating costs. M&E is providing design services for improvements which aze being
implemented by WWTP staff. Services provided to date include:
? plans for liquid sodium hypochlorite to replace chlorine gas for disinfection,
? aeration tank baffle plans to implement biological nutrient removal for phosphorus
removal, procurement recommendations, specifications review, and
? preliminary layouts for centrifuge dewatering to replace the existing Zimpro sludge.
Blue Plains Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion, Washington, D.C.
As part of a major expansion contract, M&E provided construction management, including
shop drawing reviews and other engineering services of a contract which installed seven
high-solids centrifuges to replace vacuum filters. The contract included centrifuge feed
pumps; polymer batching and feed systems and screw conveyors to transfer and transport
dewatered sludge cake. The centrifuges provided are Sharples Model DS-706 units with DC
backdrives and advanced brake controls. Two sludge cake pumps were also installed as
backup to the main output conveying systems.
In a separate contract, M&E is providing startup services for the centrifuge operation which
includes prepaxation of standard operating procedures, operator training which included
development of a computer-based centrifuge simulation model, startup and operations
assistance, and round-the-clock operation of the dewatering system to debug systems and
demonstrate system performance. M&E has developed tools to assist the operations staff in
centrifuge tuning that address various blends of primary and waste activated sludges and
methods to reduce polymer consumption.
