Project Approach 2-1
W61-S
Metcalf & Eddy
M&E has prepared an approach that follows the scope of services for the 2000 Dewatering
Centrifuge Project as described in pages 5 to 10 of the Request for Proposals. Pipe sizes,
materials, routes and installation details will be verified during the design. The sequence of
installation will be revised if required to match the equipment selected and the operational
requirements developed in conjunction with plant staff during the design.
The project approach has been divided into two Tasks and the first task further divided into two
Phases:
? INITIAL PROFESSIONAL SERVICES
? Phase I
? Phase II
? FINAL PROFESSIONAL SERVICES
Our project approach is illustrated in Figure 2-1.
INITIAL PROFESSIONAL SERVICES
The initial phase of the project will involve:
• an hydraulic analysis
• development of a base map of the Piping Yazd and Tunnel A
• gathering of record drawings for the preparation of a base map for from which the
Sludge Loadout Building (SLB) upgrades will be made
• development of sludge feed piping plans
A more detailed description of our approach to this phase is presented below.
l. Prepare hydraulic analyses for the phased installation conditions required to complete the
proposed centrifuge installation. The hydraulic analyses of the thermal conditioning
sludge feed pumps a,nd the vacuum filter feed pumps will be performed using M&E's
System Head Curve Program that develops a series of curves fully describing both the
hydraulic conditions and the predicted pump performance. This program was used on the
RAS hydraulics evaluation to define the pumping conditions and performance for both
the north and south RAS pumps. The performance curves for the south RAS pumps are
presented as an example of this program application on Chesterton pumps, similar to the
thermal conditioning sludge feed pumps to be evaluated in this project.
?
