CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />ORDINANCE NO. 2000 - 1 <br />BY: Ma,yor Norman T. Musial <br />AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC SERVICE TO <br />MAKE EMERGENCY PURCHASES OF ROAD SALT TO SUPPLEMENT THE <br />EXISTING CONTRACT FOR THE PURCHASE OF ROAD SALT FOR USE ON <br />CITY STREETS, WTTHOUT PUBLIC BIDDING, AND DECLARING AN <br />EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, the City of North Olmstad `has a contract with Morton International <br />Inc. for the purchase of road salt for use om City streets, and <br />WHEREAS, severe weather may cause the demand for road salt to exceed the <br />ability of Morton International, Inc. to supply road salt to the City of North Olmsted and <br />other cities in nertheast Ohio, and <br />yVHEREAS, the aforesaid problem has reached such a state that the public <br />bidding for additional road salt and the time associated therewith would be too time <br />consuming to meet the City's obligation to protect the public health, safety and welfare, <br />and <br />WHEREAS, Acme Company, 9495 Harvard Boulevard, Youngstown, Ohio <br />44514, and Cargill Salt, 24950 Country Club Boulevard, Suite 450, North Olmsted, Ohio <br />44070 have submitted quotes to the City of North Olmsted for the balance of 2000 to <br />supply road salt on an as-needed basis, and <br />WHEREAS, upon recommendation of the Director of Public Service, this Council <br />deems it an emergency sufficient in magnitude to forego public bidding in order to protect <br />the public health, safety and welfare of the residents of the City. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA, AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />
