e: <br />? <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 99-144 <br />BY: MAYOR MUSIAL AND THE ENTIRE COUNCIL <br />A RESOL UTION REQ UESTING THE OHIO DEPARTMENT OF <br />TRANSPORTATION (OD07) TO IMPROVE INTERSTATE 480 FROM THE <br />WEST CORPORATION LINE TO THE EAST CORPORATION LINE BY <br />CONSTR UCTING CRASH BARRIERS, AND DECLARING AN <br />EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, Interstate 480 is a principal limited access highway through the City of North <br />Olmsted, carrying approximately 100,000 vehicles per day; and <br />WHEREAS, on October 5, 1999, a tanker truck swerved off of I-480 just past a guardrail <br />in North Olmsted, went down and then up a ravine, crashed through two chain link fences <br />identifying the bike path there, and came to a stop just short of a residence only because the cab <br />struck a large diameter tree; and <br />WHEREAS, this is the third such incident occurring at this approximate location of I-480 <br />in recent times in the City of North Olmsted; and <br />WHEREAS, the City has internally discussed an overall safety review of crash barriers <br />being installed along engineeringly selected portions of I-480; and <br />WHEREAS, while I-480 is an important road in the overall nationwide transportation <br />system, its importance in this regard is overshadowed by the concerns of the Mayor and this <br />Council for the safety of North Olmsted residents living near I-480; and <br />WHEREAS, it is the belief of the Mayor and this Council that the support of the Ohio <br />Department of Transportation, not only with respect to the funding of crash barriers along I-480, <br />but also with respect to meeting with members of the Engineering Staff of the City of North <br />Olmsted to address this safety issue, would best serve and protect the safety of the affected <br />residents of the City of North Olmsted; and <br />WHEREAS, this is a matter of extreme urgency for all parties concerned, because of the <br />potential for the injury or even death to residents of the City of North Olmsted living near I-480; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That the Council of the City of North Olmsted hereby resolves to request <br />
