<br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />ORDINANCE NO. 99-12 <br />BY: COUNCILMAN O'GRADY <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 137.01 <br />(COMPOSITION) OF CHAPTER 137, ENTITLED <br />"DEPARTMENT OF LAW" OF THE ADMINISTRATIVE <br />CODE, IN ORDER TO PROVIDE FOR THE CREATION OF <br />A SECOND CIVIL ASSISTANT POSITION AND FURTHER <br />TO ELIMINATE THE TWO POSITIONS OF LAW CLERK IN <br />THE LAW DEPARTMENT, AND DECLARING AN <br />EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, heretofore the Law Department has successfully operated with the use of <br />law students who have acted as law clerks performing such tasks as doing legal research and <br />filing of documents on behalf of the City of North Olmsted; and <br />WHEREAS, due to the press of litigation and the absence of the Director of Iaw due to <br />a surgical procedure, it is the recommendation of the Director of Law that the positions of law <br />clerk be eliminated in favor of creating a second Civil Assistant position; and <br />WHEREAS, it is the desire of this Council, to provide for efficient and continuous <br />service within the Law Department by adding a second Civil Assistant to assist the Director of <br />Law in legal matters involving the City, and eliminating the positions of law clerk; and <br />WHEREAS, it is further the desire of this Council to establish a rate af compensation <br />for the year 1999 for the second Civil Assistant position, and to remove the rate of <br />compensation range for the eliminated positions of law clerk; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH <br />OLMSTED, CUYAHOGA COUNTY, AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That Section 137.01, which currently reads as follows: <br />137.01 COMPOSITION. <br />(a) The Law Department of the City, as provided in Article V, Section 2 of the <br />City Charter, shall be headed by the Director of Law.
