ARTICLE XV <br />LEAVE OF ABSENCE <br />15.1 Emplovees shall be entitled to take a personal leave of absence v?rith the appraval of the Fire Chief. <br />Any teave of absence far personal reasons sha1T not exceed a ninety da_y period. <br />15.2 An Employee who is on Sick Leave, and has exhausted all accumulazed Sick Leave, shall be <br />enutled to a sickness leave of absence which shail not exceed ninety davs from the date <br />accumulated Siek Lear e was exhausted. <br />15.3 To maintain any benefits normatIy paid b,y the Employer; the Emplovee an leatire as in Articie 15.1 <br />or 15.2 sliall pay the cost of such benefits to the Fiuaiice Director on the first dav of the moutli for <br />which the benefit payment applies. <br />1 i.4 If an Employee dces not report to the Fire Chief upon expiration of the leave of absence, he shall <br />lose atl rights of employment. <br />1-5. > Probationary Empioyees shall not be eligible for a Leave of Absence. <br />ARTICLE XVI <br />WORK RELATED ILLKESS/INJURY <br />16.1 The parties hereto recognize and agree that the duties of the Employee of the Division of Fire are <br />such that said Employees are exposed to disease and injury as a result of their assigne@ deities. It <br />is the intention of the parties to provide to said Emgloyees, salarv continuation benefits when an <br />Employee contracts an illness as hereinafter specified. Likewise, it is the inteution of the parties to <br />provide !o said Employee, salary continuation benefits wlien an Employee is injured wlule <br />responding to an emergency call and said injury is the result of conduct wluch is above and <br />bevond the call of dutv. <br />16.1(a) In the event that a fuil time sworn Eiiiployee of The Nortli Olnisted Fire Department <br />should become ill due to contact with AIDS, Hepatitis, Tuberculosis, or Meningitis, and suclt <br />iliness has so incapacitated the Employee that he iemporarily is unable to work the Fire Chief <br />shall investigate and deternune whether the illness is work reiated arid of a temporary nature. The <br />Fire Chief shall then forward his finding to the Safety nirector who shail determine the nature and <br />22 <br />
