32.4 Should an Employee need additional time off as a result of the death of a spouse or children. and <br />he can provide a medical certificate by his physician clearly stating the need for such additional <br />time off in excess of the compassionate leave, such additional Ieave may be granted by the Fire <br />Chief, and shall be deducted from the Empioyee's accumulated 6ick Leave. <br />ARTICLE XXXIII <br />DRUG AND ALCOHOL POLICY <br />33.1 POLICY <br />The North Olmsted Fire Department and the North Olmsted Fire Fighters Local 1267, I.A.F.F., <br />recognize that drug use by Employees would be a threat to the public welfare and the safety of <br />department personnet. It is the goal of tltis policy to eliminate or absotve itlegal drug usage <br />through education and rehabilitation of the affected personnel. The possession, use or being under <br />the influence of alcoholic beverages or unauthorized drugs shall not be permitted at the <br />Employer's work sites and/or while an Emplo,yee is on duty. <br />33.2 INFORMING EMPLOYEES ABOUT DRUG AND ALCdHOL TESTING <br />All Employees shall be fully informed of the Fire Department's drug and alcohol testuig policy. <br />Employees wi1l be pro-vided with information concerning the impact of the use of alcohol and <br />drugs on job performance. In addition, the Employer shall inform the Employees an how the tests <br />are conducted, what the test can determine and the consequence of testing positive for drug use. <br />All newly hired Employees will be provided with this information on their initial date of hire. No <br />Employee shatl be tested before this inforznation is provided to him. Prior to any testing, the <br />Employee wiil be required to sign a consent and release fortn. Emplayees who voluntarily come <br />fonvard and ask for assistance to deat with a drug or alcohol problem shatl not be disciptined by <br />the Employer. No disciplinary action will be taken against an Employee unless he refuses the <br />oppomunity for rehabilitation, faiis to complete a rehabiiitation program successful[y, or again <br />tests positive for drugs within two years of completing an appropriate rehabilitation program. <br />33.3 EMPLOYEE TESTING <br />Employees shall not be subjected to random medical testing involving urine or blood analysis or <br />other simiTar or reIated tests for the purpose of discovering possible drug or alcohol abuse. If, <br />however, objective evidence exists establishing reasonable suspicion to believe an Emplayee's <br />work performance is impaired due to drug or alcohol abuse, the Empioyer witl require the <br />Employee to undergo a medical test consistent with the conditions as set forth in this Policy. <br />37 <br />
