<br />CITY OF NORTH OLM5TED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2003-57 <br />By: Council Member Dailey <br />A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE HONORABLE ALAN SCHRIBER, <br />CHAIRMAN OF THE PUBLIC UTITLITIES COMMISSION OF OHIO, AND <br />FURTHER REQUESTING THE OHIO GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO <br />AUTHORIZE SBC TO OFFER LONG DISTANCE TELEPHONE SERVICES <br />TO RESIDENTS OF THE STATE OF OHIO, AND DECLARING AN <br />EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, a recent study conducted by CWRU Center of Regional Econamic Issues <br />outlined the tremendous potential economic benefits to Ohio business and consumers if SBC is <br />given long distance approval; and <br />WHEREAS, the potential decrease in long distance rates, coupled with the generation of <br />additional jobs and taxable income, as outlined in the aforesaid study, justify approval of SBC's <br />application; and <br />WHEREAS, investment in our Community is vital to ensure that our local economy <br />rema.ins strong; and <br />WHEREAS, the level of competition has intensified with the entry of residential <br />providers MCI and AT&T, bringing even more choices and business in Ohio. Our City residents <br />now have a choice of their local service. They deserve a similar choice with their long distance <br />service; and <br />WHEREAS, thirty-five (35) states have either been given approval by their State <br />Regulatory Commissions or the Federal Communications Commission ahead of Ohio, which is <br />the seventh most populated state in the nation; and <br />N'HEREAS, the Greater Cleveland Growth Association, the Communications Workers <br />of America and numerous other key stakeholders and officials have already endorsed SBC's <br />application to ensure that Ohio's telecommunications infrastructure is strong and ready ta meet <br />the demands of the businesses and residents. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IS RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OHIO THAT.• <br />? .., ? --M <br />-1: o-11-. ?,, ?-_--?
