CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2003 - 28 <br />By: Mayor Musial and All Members of Council <br />A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE "BRIDGE" <br />PROGR" AND ITS COMPONENTS: ADOPT AN OFFICER <br />AND/OR FIREFIGHTER, CAREER CONNECTIONS, <br />CROSSOVERS, AND AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES, AND <br />DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Human Resources, through its Youth <br />Development and Community Diversion Progams, shares a common interest, and long- <br />standing relationship, with the North Olmsted Board of Education in seeking to develop <br />and implement new programs that will benefit the youth of this community; and <br />WHEREAS, in May 2002, the Community Diversion Program received a training <br />grant from Ohio Network: Training and Assistance for Schools and Communities ("On <br />Tasc, Inc."), which was used to assemble and provide training for a Community team <br />composed of City officials, School officials and members of the Community, seeking tc? <br />develop a new program to assist community youths in learning to deal with alcohol, <br />tobacco a,nd other drug use/abuse issues and to mobilize atnd promote healthy youth <br />development; and <br />WHEREAS, the Community team has accordingly developed the BRIDGE <br />("Building Resiliency with Innovative Drugfree Growth Experiences") program, which <br />includes the following components: Adopt an Officer and/or Firefighter; Career <br />Connections; Crossovers, and After-School Activities; and <br />WHEREAS, the participants in the BRIDGE program components will be <br />volunteer City and School officials, members of the community, and students, all of <br />whom will be giving of their own free time to achieve the goals of the program; and <br />WHEREAS, this Council has reviewed the BRIDGE program and desires to <br />express its support for both the program itself and the partnership between the <br />Department of Human Resources and the North Olmsted Boa.rd of Education which has <br />resulted in the development and implementation of the BRIDGE program; <br />
