<br />JOB CLASSIFICATION LABORATORY <br />TECHNICIAN <br />RESPONSlBLE TO <br />SUPERVISING CHEMIST <br />NATURE OF WORK: <br />This is technical work performing a considerable volume of standard chemical <br />and bacteriological test in the laboratory of the municipal wastewater treatment plant. <br />Incumbents in this class canduct routine laboratory tests, technical <br />preparation of solutions and media as well as participate in the specialized sampling, <br />test, and investigations of water quality control or industrial wastewater pollution <br />control. Tests are performed according to weil designed and standardized <br />procedures, but require accurate and skilled application of laboratory techniques as <br />well as the competence to modify standard test and develop new procedures when <br />necessary. Work is pertormed under the general supervision of the Assistant <br />Superintendent - Plant Operations, who provides specific instructions or new or <br />madified procedures, and who inspects testing methods, results and iaboratory <br />techniques. <br />EXAMPLES OF WORK: <br />• Performs bacteriological examinations of water samples, prepares cultures and <br />makes microscopic examinations; and reads and records results. <br />• lncubates and grows bacteria for coliform plate counts; counts coliform after <br />incubation; makes bacteriological examinations of wastewater or industrial waste <br />samples secured from the source or from within the system during the several <br />stages of treatment. <br />• Prepares, maintains, and sets up for specific operations of a wide variety of <br />(aboratory equipment apparatus and supplies; cleans and sterilizes laboratory <br />equipment utensifs and facilities. <br />• Documents, tabuiates and prepares accurate reports on all tests performed as <br />directed by the Superintendent of the Water Pollution Control Department or the <br />Assistant Superintendent - Plant Operations. <br />• Maintains a supply of chemicals in the laboratory; washes glassware; cleans up, <br />calibrates and services laboratory equipment and apparatus periodically when <br />required. <br />??aX° • Performs various routine tests; such as: titration, filtration, or precipitation; makes <br />laboratory tests reports and furnishes test date. <br />70 <br />.d?P- .: _ab .. :Ktb r"+XS?..?..`?53fi.r+.ma?ap???'9M?fY h?+yMM'^"sh?`.,. . , gr,v?mp1•A^9Aa:r°p?1'?",' . .... ........ .. . . . . ? -.:, e ^^*:: . .. . . . .
