<br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. 71- ~~ <br />AN ORDINANCE ENACTING CHAPTER 140, ENTITLED <br />PRIVATE POLICEMEN AND/OR_PRIVATE POLICEWOMEN, <br />LICENSING OF PRIVATE POLICEMEN AND/OR PRIVATE <br />POLICEWOMEN, AND RULES AND REGULATIONS <br />GOVERNING PRIVATE POLICEMEN AND/JR PRIVATE <br />POLICEWOMEN. <br />WHEREAS, Private Policemen and/or Private Policewomen within the Cfty of <br />North Olmsted have not heretofore operated under any rules or regulations within <br />the City ;and <br />WHEREAS, due to the building of department stores employing Private Police- <br />men and/or Private Policewomen within the City of North Olmsted thereby creating <br />a need for rules and regulations governing Private Policemen and/or Private Police- <br />women ;and <br />WHEREAS, Council of the City of North Olmsted now wishes to establish <br />rules and regulations governing the conduct of Private Policemen and/or Private <br />Policewomen, the licensing of Private Policeman and/or Private Policewomen, <br />and other necessary requirements for a Pri~rate Police Commission. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of North <br />Olmsted, State of Ohio <br />Section 1. That Chapter 140 of the Codified Ordinances of the City of North <br />Olmsted is hereby established and is entitled , "Private Policemen and/or Private <br />Policewomen" . <br />Chapter 140 Private Policemen and/or Private Policewomen <br />Section 140.01 Authority To Issue Private Police Commissions <br />The Director of Public Safety, in pursuance with Sections 737.05 <br />of the Ohio Revised Code, is hereby authorized to commission <br />Private Policemen and/or Private Policewomen not in the cla~s~- <br />fied services of the City of North Olmsted, under such rules aid <br />regulations as the Legislative authority of the City of North C11rt~sted <br />shall grant. Said Private Police Commissions shall be valid only <br />during the hours the Private Police are employed within the City of <br />North Olmsted. <br />Section 140.02 License Required <br />(A) The Director of Public Safety upon being satisfied that the Applicant <br />possesses. all the necessary requirements of this Chapter and upon <br />payment of Twenty-Five Dollars ($25.00) annual fee may issue a <br />Private Police Commission. If said Applicant cannot establish, to the <br />satisfaction of the Director of Public Safety, that he has passed the <br />basic course of Police Officer's Training, conducted by either the <br />State, County or Municipal authority, the Private Police Commission <br />shall be probationary and shall be so marked. Said commissions , <br />probationary or regular, shall expire one (1) year from the date of <br />issuance. <br />(B) The Director of Public Safety, upon being satisfied that the Applicant <br />still possesses the necessary qualifications set forth herein, and <br />fort-her that the Applicant during the preceding year has received a <br />certificate , from the Executive Director of the Ohio Peace Officers <br />Training Council, attesting that he or she has satisfactorily completed <br />a basic course for police officer, as required by O.R. C. 109.77, may <br />renew the Private Police Commission upon the expiration of the one <br />(1) year period upon receiving the annual fee as set forth herein. <br />
