Every building wherei n plumbing fixtures are <br />installed and intended for human habitation, occupancy, <br />or use on premises abutting on a street, alley, or <br />east-ment in or for which there is a public sewer, shall <br />have a connection with the sewer. <br />v. Plumbing fixtures shall be made of smooth nonab- <br />sorbent material and shall be free from concealed fouling <br />surfaces. <br />vi. The drainage system shall be designed, constructed, <br />and maintained so as to guard against fouling, deposit of <br />solids, and clogging, and with adequate cleanouts so arranged <br />that the pipes may be cleaned readily. <br />vii. The piping of the plumbinq system shall be of <br />durable material, free from defective workmanship and so <br />designed and constructed as to give satisfactory service <br />for its reasonable expected life. <br />viii. Each fixture directly connected to the drainaqe <br />system shall be equipped with a water-seal trap. <br />ix. The drainage system shall be designed to provide <br />an adequate circulation of air in all pipes with no danger <br />of siphonage, aspiration, or forcing of trap seals under <br />conditions of ordinary use. <br />x. Each vent terminal shall extend to the outer air and <br />be so installed as to minimize the possibilities of clogging <br />and the return of foul air to the builcti. ng . <br />xi. No substance shall be allowed to enter the building <br />drainage system which will clog the pipes, produce explosive <br />mixtures, destroy the pipes or their joints, or interfere unduly <br />with the sewage-disposal process. <br />xii. Proper protection shall provide potable water and <br />prevent contamination by backflow of sewage, waste line from <br />fixtures, devices and appliances used in the processing or <br />handling of food, water, sterile goods and similar materials. <br />xiii. No water closet shall be located in a room or <br />compartment which is not properly lighted and ventilated. <br />xiv. If water closets or other plumbinq fixtures are <br />installed in buildings where there is no sanitary sewer avail- <br />able, suitable provision shall be made for disposing of the <br />build ng sewage by an accepted method of sewage treatment <br />and disposal. <br />xv. Where a plumbing drainage system may be subject to <br />backflow of sewage, suitable provision shall be made to <br />prevent its overflow in the building.
