? . : <br />???? <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />ORDINAIJCE 84- 41 ? <br />- <br />BY: k4o <br />Aiv ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE SUBAIISSION TO <br />THE ELECTORS OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED OF A <br />PROPOSED AMLNDNIENT TO THE CHARTER GF THE CI'TY <br />OF NORTH OLI4STED RLLATIVU TO ESTABLISHING THE <br />PROCEllURE FOR iVON-PARTISAN ELECTIOPdS AND <br />DECLARING AP1 EMERGENCY <br />WHEREAS, this Council in the past has had lodged with it <br />various complaints concerning election year politics within the <br />city; and <br />WFiEREAS, this Council referred the matter to the previously <br />established Charter P.eview Cornmission and they by majority <br />recommended non-partisan elections to resolve such "political <br />problems"; and <br />WHLREAS, pursuant to the Charter of the City of idorth <br />Olmsted, and the Constitution of the State of Ohio, this Council <br />has determined to authorize and direct the submission to the <br />electors of the City of Pdorth Olmsted of a proposed Charter <br />amendment, hereinafter set forth in the Ueneral Election to be <br />held on November 6, 1984, which election is not less than sixty <br />(60) days nor more than one hundred twenty (120) days from the <br />date of the passage of this Urdinance. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, l3E IT ORUAINED BY THE COUIdCIL OF THE CITY OI <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA, AND STATE OF OHIO, TWO-THIRllS <br />OF COUNCIL C011CtIRRING: <br />Section l: That this Council hereby authorizes and clirects <br />the submission to the electors of the City of North 0lmsted at <br />the general election to be held at the usual places of voting in <br />said city on 'Tuesday, November 6, 1984, the following proposal to <br />amend the Charter of the City of Pvorth Olmsted: <br />Proposal That SecLions l, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 of Article IX <br />of the Charter be amended to provide for the proceclure for <br />nominations and elections for non-partisan elections. Such <br />amended Sections l, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 of Article IX to read as <br />follows: <br />ARTICLE IX <br />NOMINATIONS AND LLLCTIONS <br />SECTIOIV l. MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS <br />A general election for the choice of elective officers <br />provided for in this Charter shall be held on the first Tuesday <br />after the first Monday in November in odd numbered years. <br />Llections so held shall be lcnown as regular municipal elections, <br />Such other elections shall be held as may be required by 1aw, or <br />provided for in this Charter.
