54. An employee shall become eligible for vacation leave on <br />his anniversary date and vacation leave shall be taken by the employee <br />within twelve (12) months thereafter. However employees shall be <br />permitted to carry over 50% of his annual vacation eligibility <br />in a given year to be used during the subsequent year. <br />55. If an employee is terminated (voluntarily or involuntar- <br />ily) prior to taking his vacation and has completed one (1) <br />year of employment with the City, he shall receive the pro- <br />rated portion of any accrued but unused vacation at the time of <br />separation. In case of death of an employee, the unused <br />vacation leave shall be paid to the estate. <br />56. (a) If a day recognized as a holiday by the terms of <br />? <br />this Memorandum falls within an employee's vacation leave, the <br />employee shall have the option of receiving an additional day <br />of time off or an additional day's pay in recognition of the <br />holiday. <br />(b) An employee may have the option of using a personal <br />day as a day of extended vacation. <br />-28- <br />_
