_1'_ <br />_ S <br />CITY OF NOR'IH OLN6TED <br />ORDINANCE N0. 85 -86 <br />PAGE 5 <br />(E) Additional sign areas shall be permitted as follows: <br />1. I7irectional si s, of permanent construction <br />i'nTicating tra ic routes within parking areas <br />or driveways, and similar functions, shall be <br />permitted in addition to the above limitations <br />' if each sign does not exceed four (4) square <br />feet in area. <br />2. Nameplates - Professional or service offices and <br />organ?izations above the growid floor of a building <br />may have additional signs provided the total area <br />of the signs do not exceed two percent (2%) of <br />the floor area occupied by the establishment or <br />fifty (50) square feet, whichever is smaller. <br />Any window sign shall not exceed two (2) square <br />feet in area. <br />3. Second Entrances - Buildings having a second <br />entrance to a parking area from a second street or <br />having a facade facing a second street may have <br />additional signs not exceeding twenty percent (200) <br />of the area of signs permitted on the main facade. <br />Additional signs shall only be used on the building <br />side facing the second street or an tfie portion of <br />the same lot on tfie second street. <br />4. Tpmp orary business 5i?ns - In the event of a new <br />business or use, a iat or wall sign not exceeding <br />forty (40) square feet in size ma.y be attached to <br />the building for a period of time not more than <br />thirty (30) days beyond the installation of its <br />permanent signs, or ninety (90) days maximum, <br />whichever occurs first. Written approval must <br />first be obtained from tfie Building Official. <br />5. TMorary devel ment 5igns, annoLmcing a proposed <br />build1'ng, aT?uilder construction or adver- <br />tising the sale, rental or lease of a building, or <br />part thereof, shall be located on the 1ot occupied <br />by the building or use advertised and sfia11 not <br />exceed forty (40) square feet in total area for <br />each street frontage. Permanent signs, indicating <br />name, owner or manager shall be permitted; size <br />and design, however, shall first have to be approved <br />by the Building Official. <br />(F) Signs in business districts ma.p be located on the surface <br />of, or project from, the building wall adjacent to a <br />street, a pedestrian way or adjacent to a parking area, <br />or erected on poles or other ground supports in yards as <br />herein regulated. The maximtun dimensions set forth shall <br />include the structural members tmless otherwise indicated. <br />1. Flat or wall si , shall not project more than <br />eig teen inc es 811) in front of tfie building <br />wall and not project beyond any building corner. <br />A sign may extend above the top of the front wall <br />but not more than twenty percent (20%) of its total <br />height may be extended above tfie wall, provided <br />further that the sign is set back from eacfi side <br />lot line and party wall line at least equal to the <br />dimensions tfiat the sign projects above the tap <br />of the wall.
