BIERMAN <br />AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE SUBMISSION TO <br />THE ELECTORS OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED OF <br />AN AMENDMENT TO SECTION 2 OF ARTICLE IX OF THE <br />CHARTER OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED TO PROVIDE <br />THAT PRIMARY ELECTIONS BE HELD AT THE SAME TIME <br />AS THAT DESIGNATED BY THE STATE OF OHIO AND <br />DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, the Charter of the City of North Olmsted, at <br />Article IX, Section 2, currently provides that primary elections <br />be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in June of <br />the odd numbered years; and <br />WHEREAS, the State of Ohio in 1983 changed the State <br />code to provide that primary elections be held on the first <br />Tuesday after the first Monday in May of the odd numbered years <br />and; <br />WHEREAS, it is the desire of this Council to present to <br />the electors of the City of North Olmsted for their consideration, <br />that primary elections coincide with the day established by the <br />State of Ohio, for primary election days. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, CUYAHOGA COUNTY, TWO-THIRDS OF ALL MEMBERS <br />CONCURRING: <br />SECTION l: That pursuant to Article XVIII, Section 9 of <br />the Ohio Constitution and Article VII of the Charter of the City <br />of North Olmsted, this Council hereby authorizes and directs the <br />submission to the electors of the City of North Olmsted at an <br />election to be held at the usual places of voting in the City on <br />Tuesday, June 4, 1985, the following proposal to amend the Charter <br />of the City of North Olmsted: <br />That existing Section 2 of Article IX of the Charter be <br />amended to read as follows: <br />SECTION 2: PRIMARY ELECTIONS <br />Primary elections shall be held for the purpose of <br />nominating persons as candidates of political parties for election <br />to offices to be voted for at the next succeeding general election <br />in the odd numbered years at the date and time provided for from <br />time to time by the general laws of the State of Ohio governing <br />municipal corporations. <br />SECTION 2: If the foregoing proposal receives the <br />affirmative vote of the majority of the electors voting thereeon, <br />then existing Section 2 of Article IX shall be and the same is <br />hereby repealed effective as of the date on which such amendment <br />becomes effective.
