CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />ORDINANCE NO. 2013 -13 <br />BY: Council Member Barker and the Entire City Council <br />AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING AND FIXING THE <br />COMPENSATION FOR THE ELECTED OFFICIALS OF THE CITY <br />OF NORTH OLMSTED FOR THE TERM OF OFFICE <br />COMMENCING JANUARY 1, 2014 AND ENDING DECEMBER 31, <br />2017AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, the Charter of the City of North Olmsted, at Article IV, Section 6, <br />requires the Council to fix the compensation for all elected officials at least thirty (30) <br />days prior to the filing date of nominating petitions for terms beginning on the next <br />succeeding 1 St day of January; and <br />WHEREAS, the Council in 2009 demonstrated leadership during a fiscal crisis by <br />reducing the salaries for elected officials for the terms 2010-2013 and, similarly, for the <br />at-Large positions during another election cycle; and <br />WHEREAS, bargaining unit employees and non-bargaining unit employees also <br />sacrificed during the economic crisis by accepting concessions and no raises; and <br />WHEREAS, working with the administration, the employees and elected officials <br />have placed the City in better fiscal shape; and <br />WHEREAS, employees throughout the City have received pay increases of 2°/o <br />starting in 2012, after years of accepting 0%; and <br />WHEREAS, the elected official positions should be restored to pre-2009 salary <br />levels and thereafter receive 2% pay increases; and <br />WHEREAS, the Director of Law position, with the assumption of additional <br />responsibilities, has been adjusted $5,000.00, with pay increases of 2% thereafter; and <br />WHEREAS, it is the desire of this Council to establish the compensation for all <br />elected officials in compliance with the Charter's requirements. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OFNORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That the salary to be paid to the Mayor for the term commencing <br />January 1, 2014 and ending December 31, 2017, shall be as follows:
