EXHIBIT <br />CHAPTER 159 <br />Cultural Activities Commission ? 1-3 a--- <br />159.01 Created; purpose. 159.03 Membership; appointments; <br />159.02 Duties. terms. <br />159.01 CREATED; PURPOSE. <br />There is hereby created a Cultural Activities Commission whose duties are to serve as a <br />policy maker and to render administrative decisions, and to coordinate cultural activities by <br />utilizing all resources necessary to further promote cultural achievement within the City. The <br />Commission shall not take control of any cultural events from a sponsoring organization and <br />shall not assume the financing of any events as the financing shall remain the sole responsibility <br />of the sponsoring organization, which shall assume any profit or loss. <br />(Ord. 69-112. Passed 6-3-69.) <br />159.02 DUTIES. <br />The Cultural Activities Commission shall encourage and further cultural activities in the <br />City. The Commission shall coordinate cultural activities to prevent date, material and personnel <br />conflicts. The Commission shall provide the best possible publicity for such events. Whenever <br />possible the Commission shall combine two smaller events of different but compatible arts into a <br />larger presentation to promote better attendance. The Commission shall coordinate these events <br />with the City government so necessary permits, safety services, etc. can be arranged with a <br />minimum of trouble and misunderstanding. <br />(Ord. 69-112. Passed 6-3-69.) <br />159.03 MEMBERSHIP; APPOINTMENTS; TERMS. <br />The membership of the Cultural Activities Commission shall be limited to seven <br />members who shall serve for a term of one year and who shall be appointed by the Mayor and <br />approved by Council. Effective January 1, 2006, and thereafter, members shall be appointed to <br />terms of five years, except that the members appointed to terms commencing on January 1, 2006, <br />shall be appointed as follows - one for a term of one year, two for a term of two years, one for a <br />term of three years, two for a term of four years, and one for a term of five years, and, upon the <br />expiration of the said terms of each said member, his or her successor shall be appointed for a <br />term of five years. The Commission members may serve for more than one term, and it is <br />recommended, but not required, that the Community Council, the Chamber of Commerce, the <br />Ministerial Association, the Board of Education, and the Parks and Recreation Commission be <br />represented by membership on the Commission, plus two members chosen at large, primarily <br />because of unusual interest and ability in this field of endeavor. <br />(Ord. 2005-174.
