The
Commission shall not take control of any cultural events from a sponsoring organization and
shall not assume the financing of any events as the financing shall remain the sole responsibility
of the sponsoring organization, which shall assume any profit or loss.
(Ord. 69-112. The Commission shall coordinate cultural activities to prevent date, material and personnel
conflicts. The Commission shall provide the best possible publicity for such events. Whenever
possible the Commission shall combine two smaller events of different but compatible arts into a
larger presentation to promote better attendance. Passed 6-3-69.)
159.03 MEMBERSHIP; APPOINTMENTS; TERMS.
The membership of the Cultural Activities Commission shall be limited to seven
members who shall serve for a term of one year and who shall be appointed by the Mayor and
approved by Council. Effective January 1, 2006, and thereafter, members shall be appointed to
terms of five years, except that the members appointed to terms commencing on January 1, 2006,
shall be appointed as follows - one for a term of one year, two for a term of two years, one for a
term of three years, two for a term of four years, and one for a term of five years, and, upon the
expiration of the said terms of each said member, his or her successor shall be appointed for a
term of five years. The Commission members may serve for more than one term, and it is
recommended, but not required, that the Community Council, the Chamber of Commerce, the
Ministerial Association, the Board of Education, and the Parks and Recreation Commission be
represented by membership on the Commission, plus two members chosen at large, primarily
because of unusual interest and ability in this field of endeavor.
(Ord. 2005-174.
