r ,~~, <br />d <br />MAINTENANCE HELPER <br />Nature of Work <br />-~~ ,~ <br />Appcndix i3-$ <br />This is semi-skilled and limited skilled work in construction, repair, <br />and general maintenance of plant equipment, machinery, facilities, and <br />grounds at the municipal wastewater pumping stations and treatment plant. <br />Work involves responsibility for assisting in the maintenance and <br />repair of equipment, machinery, and related appurtenances at the wastewater <br />pumping stations and treatment plant; other duties include acting as a <br />relief operator and performing building maintenance and custodial duties <br />when required. Usually maintenance work is performed under the immediate <br />supervision of an employee of a higher classification. Assignments are <br />determined by breakdowns of machinery and ,equipment ; however, routine work <br />is performed with little direct supervision. Technical assistance is <br />readily available for help on unusual or difficult problems. Work is re- <br />viewed through inspections and by observations of results. <br />Examples of Work <br />Loads and unloads heavy materials from truck;•moves and assists in <br />moving heavy machine ry and equipment. <br />Performs general bui Idi ng and grounds maintenance and custodi al tasks <br />including painting; shoveling snow and repairing windows when required. <br />Assists in the maintenance and repair of plant machinery and equipment; <br />such as, pumps, chlorinators, and chemical feeders; installs and replaces <br />new gauges and pressure switches on panels when necessary. <br />Operates electric pumping station in emergencies; inspects pumping <br />station as required. for proper operation when required. <br />Assists operators and mechanics in the operation and repair of pump- <br />. ing stations and treatment plant. . <br />May be assigned to operate pumping station or treatment plant on <br />assigned shift for relief or emergency situations. <br />Occasionally operates light automotive equipment; such as, trucks, front <br />end loaders, and tractors. <br />Subject to 24-hour call during emergency situations. <br />Performs related work as required. <br />i <br />Desirable Knowledge, Abilities and Skills <br />Some knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools, and materials <br />of the trade. <br />-164- <br />
