<br />? <br />JOB TITLE: <br />OPERATOR <br /> Nature of Work: This is routine and semi-skilled work <br />m"' assisting in shift operation of waste- <br /> water treatment and pumping equipment and facilities at the <br />?" municipal wastewater treatment plant and pumping stations. <br />ow <br /> Work involves responsibility for routine and emergency operation, <br /> servicing and cleaning of buildings and grounds as well as a <br />? variety or specialized equipment and apparatus in a pumping <br /> station and wastewater treatment plant. Duties include the <br /> operation of pumps, motors, and the reading and recording of <br /> appropriate meters and gauges at regularly scheduled intervals <br /> in and around pump and treatment plants. Incumbents are required <br /> to become thoroughly trained on assigned equipment under normal <br /> and emergency conditions. Work is performed under the general <br />ow supervision of the Assistant Superintendent-Plant Operations <br /> and is reviewed through inspection of plant records, equipment and <br />?• facilities, and observation and tests of plant efficiencies and <br /> effectiveness. <br /> <br /> Examples of Work: <br /> <br />? Reads log book of previous shift operations to determine the <br /> occurrence of conditions requiring special attention during his <br /> shifts. <br />Tours and inspects assigned pump station and treatment plant as <br />t- required; checks out equipment and collects appropriate waste- <br />water samples during various phases of the treatment process; <br />?" checks flow charts to determine that flow is to desired volume; <br />checks ink supply and flow pens and replenishes and adjusts as <br />necessary. <br />Turns electrically operated pumps on and off in accordance with a <br />prescribed schedule or specific instructions; reads meters; changes <br />log and recorder sheets and makes periodic entries thereon. <br />". Performs such general custodial work as mopping floors, washing <br />windows, painting equipment, keeping machinery free of dust and <br />"?'' oil, and shoveling snow. <br />Maintains vigilance over operating equipment and recording devices <br />rr at pumping stations; starts up emergency pumps and manually <br />resets control devices to maintain pumping and treatment operations <br />'N* during power failure and emergency conditions. <br />Inspects and checks out grit equipment for proper operation; <br />4M starts grit collectors; removes grit and debris from grit hoppers. <br />ow Removes scum from primary tanks; draws sludge and ptmnps into <br />sludge holding tanks; washes down tanks; performs laboratory tests <br />'"?` as directed; maintains monitoring watch over operation during <br />EXHIBIT B-9 <br />?. <br />4w -58-
