Gareau~ Mayor; Bruce MacDonald President of Council; <br />Henry Casters Ralph Christman Dewey Limp~a.^t~ A.L. Mangar~i~ Lillian Nicholas <br />Francis J. O=Neill~ George H. Porter. <br />Also present were Lloyd E. Barnes, Service Director; dames T. Wilson Safety <br />Director; C. J. Oviatt, Solicitor; Alex Ranareff, Engineer; and Louise Halts Clerk. <br />Absent: William Gerlach Auditor. <br />The minutes of the regular meeting of the Council May 17f 1960 were approved as <br />corrected. <br />The Mayor stated that he had received the report from Bakery Hostetler and <br />Patterson on legal services rendered for the City to the Board of Tax Appeals. <br />As the report was quite lengthy it was passed to all sabers of Council for <br />them to look over. <br />The Mayor requested Council to consider taking legal action to put on the <br />November ballot a revision of the Charter, Article 5 - Administrative Officers <br />and Departments, removing the stipulation that the appointme~+a by the Mayor <br />of the Director of Law and Director of Finance shall be subject to the approval <br />of a ma3ority of the members elected to Council. <br />The Service Director reported on the progress of the Treatment Plants the <br />addition to the Police Stations and the Clague Rd. culvert. He also stated <br />that Fairview had approved the fare rates for the Bus line. <br />The Service Director requested authority tQ, take bids for sidewalks on Lorain <br />Rd.~ for insecticides to be used in the Insect Control programs and on the work <br />on the berm and tree lawn on Butternut Ridge in front of the school. <br />The Safety Director reported on the plans for All Scouts Day on June 11~ 1960. <br />The Safety Director reported on the activities of the Building Department <br />Police and Fire Departments for the month of May. <br />The Safety Director requested authority of Council to take bids for new radios <br />for Police and Fire Departments. <br />The Safety Director requested Council to consider an increase in wages for Fire <br />Police and Building Departments and also the hiring of 3 new Policemen and <br />3 new Firemen and a part.-time clerk for the Building Department. <br />The Service Director also requested authority to take bids for a new Police Car <br />and a new Detective:s car. <br />The Engineer reported on the progress of the paving of Sweetbrier and stated <br />that the Decker Road paving is being held up until a legal opinion can be given <br />pertaining to the petition. <br />Mr. Oviatt~ Solicitor, recommended that the Engineer recheck signatures on the <br />Petition for paving of Decker Rd. <br />The Clerk read the following communications: <br />1. A letter from Beatrice B. and Earl J. Ti.mothy~ 29863 Broxbourne <br />Ave, North Olmsted protesting the assessment for the sanitary <br />sewer plans and rfuture sewer assessments that do not directly <br />benefit or improve their property. <br />2. A letter from R.L. Bedford 3720 W. 232 St,~ North Olmsted <br />requesting the Mayor and the Council to effect some compromise <br />for a temporary period in reference to the difference of <br />interpretation of the Charter. <br />
