FEBRUARY 3, 1959 - - PAGE 3 <br />In regards to the heroic rescue made lxy Chief Donaldson, Lieutenant DeWerth <br />and Patrolman Waldron, it was moved by Mrs. Hinkel, seconded by Mrs. Lynch, <br />these men be commended for their deed. "Yeas" Hinkel, Hixson, Kramer, Lynch, <br />MacDonald, Wilson. <br />Mr. Nahigyan, of Eleanor Drive, suggested something more tangible to reward <br />our Firemen and Policemen for outstanding performances, other than a resolution. <br />The suggestion is to be considered by the Safety Committee. <br />Mrs. Hinkel, Chairman of the Safety Committee, is to report back to Council <br />on the rewriting of the Rules and Regulations for the Fire Department, the <br />installation of a teletype, Mutual Aid, and awards to the Police and Fire <br />Departments for meritorious service. <br />The Engineer presented a revised sewer plan and an easement for an existing <br />sewer outlet serving Twin Circle subdivision. The revised plan would eliminate <br />a duplication of sewers. In return for the easement rights for the Twin <br />Circle outlet sewer, the City will permit that same outlet to be used by the <br />developer for home=,abutting the cul-de-sae in Ambour Drive Subdivision No. 5. <br />The Solicitor gave approval to the easement for the extension of Ambour Drive <br />Subdivision No. 5. <br />A communication was read from Chestnut P.T.A., requesting a pony ride con- <br />cession booth at the Home Coming. It was moved by Mr. Hixson, seconded by <br />Mrs. Lynch, that it be referred to the Properties Committee. "Yeas" Hinkel, <br />Hixson, Kramer, Lynch, MacDonald, Wilson. <br />Mr. Wilson reported the Finance Committee met Wednesday, January 28th, <br />relative to the anticipated operating expenditures for 1959, and expedditures <br />from January through May would be thoroughly studied in June in anticipation <br />~ trf- ~.~- ramie- tr#- ~re~ ~O-13e e- ~,~s- ao-e~'oa~e- -#~.e- ems- ~ #.~re l~r~e~- ~os~ (see b e 1 o w ) <br />The Finance Committee also recommended salary increases, effective March 1, <br />1959, as follows: Theresa Frobieter and Joe Novotny be increased 5.2J per <br />year and Eleanor Powell, Eleanor Rulle and John Douglas be increased 10¢ per <br />hour. <br />The Finance Committee also recommended extra work in the Fire Department be <br />increased from $$1.00 to 51.50 per hour. Consideration was given to additional <br />firemen and policemen, possibly by June of 195q, in anticipation of larger <br />revenue from taxes. A meeting is scheduled Saturday, February 7th, to <br />negotiate wage increases for the Police and Fire Departments. <br />Mrs. Lynch reported a meeting was held in regard to the Youth Week program, <br />and a report will be made available on activities of the Boy Scouts, Girl <br />Scouts and the Junior Achievement program, or any other Youth organization. <br />The Service Director reported relative to the lighting on Lorain at Brookpark <br />Road, that double lights are going to be put up in that area. It was proposed <br />if the City would install the needed lights, the Great Northern Shopping <br />Center would pay all of the costs of these lights for a period of one year, <br />and after that the City would have to take care of it from the tax duplicate. <br />The Service Director is to meet with Mr. Ross of the Illuminating Company on <br />February 4th, with the recommendation to install the new type lights for <br />better illumination. <br />Mrs. Lynch reported the children on Wellesley Avenue had to walk in the street, <br />which is only about 12 ft. wide, and had received a request from residents <br />in that area for more lights on the street. Two lights were ordered for <br />Wellesley in November, 1958. She was also asked if a sidewalk could be in- <br />stalled on one side only. It was agreed that a sidewalk could be placed on <br />one side only, and the Engineer stated the road was a 40 ft. road and <br />recommended property owners donate five feet on either side to widen the <br />road to fifty feet. <br />Mr. MacDonald, Chairman of the Street, Sewers and Ditches Committee, <br />reported the Sewer Committee met on January 27th with Messrs. Biskind, Shur, Wilson; <br />Kuhn, Hixson and himself and plans have been completed for Zone 1, which is <br />Correction per mtg. of 2~17~5y - of the hiring; of police and firemen.
