MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, OHIO <br />JANUARY 20, 1959 - 8:05 P.M. <br />Present were Paul J. Gareau, Mayor; Ralph A. Hazelton, President of Council; <br />Eddie Hixson, Wm. H. Kramer, Marcy Alice Lynch, Bruce MacDonald, Francis <br />O'Neill, James Wilson and Lloyd E. Barnes, Service Director. <br />Also present were E. M. Christman, Clerk, and Alex Kanareff, Engineer. <br />Absent were Carl F. Haettich, Safety Director; C. J. Oviatt, Solicitor; <br />Alice Dobbins, Treasurer; and James Hinkel. <br />The minutes of January 6th were read and approved as corrected. <br />The Mayor requested that his report covering the year 1958, which was read <br />at the Council Meeting of January 6th, be included in its entirety as part <br />of the minutes of that date. <br />It was moved by Mr. O'Neill, seconded by Mr. Wilson, that the Mayor's Report <br />become a part of the minutes of the Council Meeting of January 6th, 1959• <br />"Yeas" Hixson, Kramer, Lynch, MacDonald, O'Neill, Wilson. <br />The minutes of the adjourned meeting of January 13th were read. <br />Mr. L. H. Baker, 25566 Lorain Road, requested information as to why a <br />building permit can be obtained in the Wellesley Avenue area in connection <br />with one property; whereas, permits were not granted on other lots in the <br />same area. Mr. Hixson advised P~Tr. Baker that actually the County Board of <br />Health has jurisdiction over permits within th:3.t section. <br />The minutes of the adjourned meeting of January 13th were approved as corrected. <br />The Mayor requested the approval of Council relative to the following appoint- <br />ments: <br />Ralph H. Parker - Zoning Board of Appeals - 3 year appointment <br />Arthur Wissmann - Street Commissioner for the year 1959 <br />Ernest Lundy and Adam Wershing - Bu~.lding Commissioner and <br />Building Inspector, respectively, for the year of 1959 <br />Mayor Gareau directed the attention of Council to the fact that the minutes <br />of January 19, 1958 listed the appointment of Harry Krohn to the Civil <br />Service Commission for a period of three years. Actually the appointment <br />was far a six year term and the Mayor requested the correction be reflected <br />in the minutes. <br />The Mayor proclaimed the week of January 18th to January 25th as Jaycee Week <br />and the week of February 7th to February 13th as Boy Scout Week. In con- <br />nection with the latter proclamation, the Mayor advised that he will contact <br />the Boy Scout representative and advise him that we will be unable to cooperate <br />with the entire program; inasmuch as the traditional celebration in North <br />Olmsted is carried on at a later date. <br />The Mayor advised Council that the report covering proposals for the year of <br />1959 will be held in abeyance until next Council Meeting, as it would be <br />difficult to submit the report, in its entirety, without first considering <br />the financial picture for the year 1958. He stated that further appointments <br />will be discussed at the next meeting. <br />It was moved by Mr. O'Neill, and seconded by Mr. Wilson, that the Mayor's <br />appointments be approved. "Yeas" Hixson, Kramer, Lynch, MacDonald, O'Neill, <br />Wilson. <br />The Acting Safety Director reported that a communication had been received <br />from the Police Relief and Pension Fund, wherein a meeting was requested with <br />the Finance Committee. <br />
