MINIITES OF A MEETING OF THE COIINCIL
<br />OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, OHIO
<br />OCTOBER 7, 1958 - 8:16 P. M.
<br />Present were Paul J. Gareau, Mayor; Ralph Hazelton, President of Council;
<br />James Hinkel, Eddie Hixson, Mary Alice Lynch, Bruce MacDonald, Wm. H.
<br />Rramer, Francis O'Neill, James Wilson, Lloyd E. Barnes, Service Director;
<br />and Carl F. Haettich, Safety Director.
<br />Also present were E. M. Christman, Clerk; C. J. Oviatt, Solicitor; Alex
<br />~anareff, Engineer; and Alice Dobbins, Treasurer.
<br />The minutes of the meeting of Council of September 16th were approved as
<br />corrected,
<br />The Mayor read a communication from Persky & Loeb, attorneys for G. & L.
<br />Subdivision, requesting dedication of LeBerne Drive, and advising that a
<br />bond will be furnished the City for unfinished sidewalks in the subdivision.
<br />The Mayor proclaimed October 5th, through the 11th, Fire Prevention Week.
<br />The Mayor advised Council of correspondence with the State Department of
<br />Health, the Water Pollution Control Board, and the City of Cleveland
<br />Department of Public IItilities inviting representatives of the Divisions
<br />to the Public Meeting October 14th, to be held at the North Olmsted Com-
<br />munity Club House.
<br />The Mayor reported the paving of Lorain Road was scheduled to start on
<br />October 8th, and the general survey was made today. In regards to the
<br />disposal of asphalt and debris, anyone desirous of obtaining fill should
<br />contact the Street Commissioner. According to the contract with the State,
<br />the road should be completed by August of 1959.
<br />The Mayor reported that due to the very near opening of the Shopping Center,
<br />persons desirous of renting or purchasing property within the City of North
<br />Olmsted should contact the secretary.
<br />The Service Director reported that with the start of the paving of Lorain
<br />Road, roads such as Broxbourne and Wellesley can use the asphalt from
<br />Lorain Road.
<br />The Service Director requested approval of the 60-day trial run on the
<br />nsw bus route as follows: Lorain to Stearns, to Bagley, East on Bagley to
<br />Mapleway, North to Cook Road, West to McRenzie, North to Lorain Road, to
<br />the Great Northern Shopping Center, East on Brookpark to Clague, North to
<br />Lorain, West to Gessner, to Columbia, South to Lorain, to the Great Northern
<br />Shopping Center.
<br />The Service Director also reported he had talked with Mr. Biskind, and
<br />presented a letter to Council, in which Mr. Biskind stated if the City
<br />would have a loss in the trial run, he would underwrite 50% of the loss,
<br />if one should occur. The cost of the trial run would be approximately
<br />$65.00 per day, and the complete run would take about one hour. The
<br />Shopping Center is expeded to open on the 15th of October, with the Grand
<br />Opening sometime in November. The Shopping Center is also willing to pay
<br />the fare of the people desiring to go to the Shopping Center, and requested
<br />approval of the agreement with Mr. Biskind. The fare was set up at $.20~
<br />each way.
<br />Discussion followed relative to the payment of fares by the merchants of
<br />the Shopping Center as to whether or not legislation would be necessary
<br />during the 60-day trial run.
<br />A committee was appointed to negotiate proper contract with the Great
<br />Northern Shopping Center as follows: Mr. O'Neill, Chairman, Mr. Wilson,
<br />and Mr. Hixson.
<br />Mr. Hixson requested to go on record as being opposed to entering into any
<br />contract or legislation at this time, as he felt it was unnecessary and
<br />uncalled for at this time.
