OCTOBER 7, 1958 - PAGE 2. <br />The Service Director referred to communication from the House and Home <br />Finance Agency, relative to the City's inability to finance the advance <br />of $58,000.00, requesting a representative of the City meet with them <br />in Chicago fob further clarification. <br />The Service Director requested Council's action on the following: <br />1. Advertising for bids for tires. <br />2. Paving of Columbia Road from Lorain Road to the South <br />City Limits. <br />3. Wages of the Bus Mechanics. <br />4. The action against the Ohio Vending Company and Joe DiSilvester. <br />The Safety Director requested to have an ordinance passed prohibiting a <br />left turn off Lorain on to Brookpark Road going West. <br />The Safety Director advised that the Board of Control accepted the bid <br />of Robert Lee Ford, for the purchase by the City of two cars for use by <br />the Police Department, in the amount of $3,995.54, including title fees, <br />plus rear skid bars at $39.42. The cars are to be delivered within thirty- <br />one days after receipt of the purchase order. Bids varied from $4,000.00 <br />to $4800.00. <br />The Safety Director reported activities of the Building Department as <br />follows: 79 permits issued at $915.10, with an estimated valuation of <br />$832,756.00. <br />The Safety Director reported activities of the Fire and Police Departments <br />(including traffic citations) for the month of September. <br />The Safety Director reported that Patrolman Bierman <br />to attend classes at the London Prison Farm October <br />expenses to be paid by the City. He also reported <br />Turocy, and Ted Culp, had been authorized to attend <br />the University of Ohio, with expenses to be paid by <br />each. <br />had been authorized <br />13th to 24th, with <br />that Firemen, Milan <br />special classes at <br />the City of $50.00 <br />The Safety Director reported relative to meetings with the Committees of <br />the Fire and Police Department regarding wage increases, which proposals <br />are to be referred to the Finance Committee as follows: <br />Police Department: Requesting 10% increase in salary forty <br />(40) hours per week, three weeks vacation <br />after ten years of service, 2% longevity pay <br />after ten years, and 4% longevity pay after <br />fifteen years of service. <br />Fire Department: Requesting 10~ increase in salary, three <br />weeks vacation after ten years of service, <br />2~ longevity pay after ten years of servic®, <br />and 4~ longevity pay after fifteen years of <br />service, plus part time Firemen to be increased <br />from $1.00 to $1.50 per hour. <br />The Mayor recommended the Safety Director take under consideration pro- <br />hibiting "U" turns in designated sections, particularly at Porter and <br />Lorain Roads. <br />Mr. Wilson reported the Finance Committee met September 29th. Present <br />'~~ were Messrs. Kramer, Hinkel, Christman, and himself. The recommendation <br />of the Mayor in regards to funds for the Building Board of Appeals was <br />studied. No appropriations had been set up, and it is to be tabled until <br />after the first of the year. Money for the Police Cars had been made <br />available, and it is anticipated there will be a tax return before the end <br />of the year, in the amount of approximately $25,000.00. <br />Mr. Hinkel reported the Safety Committee recommended the City accept the <br />X750.00 for various items for clean up, and the bond in the amount of <br />$1,000.00 for future installation of sidewalks of the North Olmsted <br />Estates Subdivision, and release of their bond. <br />
