moved to that location.
Mr. Wilson reported that since April, he had been after Nir. Williams to
do something about Maria Lane. Mr. Williams promised this would be done
by August 1st, and wrote letters to the residents to that effect. Nothing
happened by August 1st, and ten days later stated he had started to get
contracts. After two weeks, he called back and stated he had entered into
a contract with Fraser-Keil. About twelve days ago, was told he would
start. Ten days have elapsed, and he had called Mr. Williams, and he
stated work would start today. In view of all facts, Mr. Wilson is now
asking Council to act to stop construction on Sweetbrier until the Developer
completed Maria Lane.
After considerable discussion relative to
that asphalt plants will be closing about
Mr. Wilson, seconded by Mr. Hixson, that
October 15th, it was moved by
ire direct our Solicitor to take
bond of Monson-Williams Company
Lane. "Yeas" Hixson, Kramer,
It was also moved by Mr. Wilson, seconded by Mrs. Lynch, the Building
Commissioner issue no permits on Sweetbrier for new construction by
Monson-Williams Building Company. "Yeas" Kramer, Lynch, MacDonald,
O'Neill, Wilson. "Nay" Hixson.
The Engineer reported relative to W. 230th, W. 232nd and Mildred Avenue,
that he had met with Carney and facts presented, affidavits showing the
job was completed according to specifications, and it was recommended by
the Solicitor the City settle for $750.00 plus the bond of $1,000.00 for
sidewalks, in order to straighten out the difficulties existing in this
subdivision instead of foreclosing on the bond. This was referred to
Committee for study before release of bond.
The Engineer reported relative to Barnow's Subdivision, that on the pre-
liminary inspection, there were nineteen defects. The developer has
corrected all but one, which according to specification8 is an inferior
type of catch basin, and if corrected, recommended dedication of the
subdivision. Mr. Barnow stated that all was done according to plans and
specifications of the Engineer and in his opinion to change the catch
basin at this time would not be justified. This was referred to Committee.
The Safety Director reported he had appointed Louis Sheppard, School Guard,
effective September 17th; also, John Douglas, Assistant Jailer, was
appointed as of August 16th.
The Safety Director reported the lease on the two police cars expires on
November 10th and no extension of time will be granted. The cars will be
called in at this time. The prices quoted to purchase these cars are
$1,200.00 on one, and X1,310.00 on the other, bringing the total to $2,510.00
for both, plus one month's rental, plus .02¢ per mile over 42,000 miles;
thus, bringing the total cost to $1,619.75 each. The approximate price
for a 1959 car would be $2,000.00 each. He would appreciate Council's
immediate action because of the time limit, or the Police Department will
necessarily revert to one new car and one old car if action is not taken
immediately.
Committee is to determine if the City is in a position to purchase the
present cars, and advertise for bids at the same time for two four-door
sedans.
The Safety Director reported the activities of the Fire Department and
Police Department, together with traffic citations for the month of August.
Mr. Robert Decker appeared before Council to clarify curfew hours relative
to the operation of the Canteen. They are to remain as they have been.
It was moved by Mr. Hixson, seconded by Mr. Wilson, the appointments of
Louis Sheppard - School Guard, and John Douglas - Assistant Jailer, by
the Safety Director be approved. "Yeas" Hixson, Kramer, Lynch, MacDonald,
O'Neill, Wilson.
