JIILY 1, 195$ <br />MINIITES OF A MEETING OF THE CDIINCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF NORTH OLMSTED, 4HI0 - 8:15 P.M. <br />Present were Ralph A. Hazelton, President of Council; James Hinkel, <br />Eddie Hixson, Wm. H. Kramer, Mary Alice Lynch Francis O'Neill, James <br />Wilson, L1®yd E. Barnes, Service Director; and Carl F. Haettich, <br />Safety Director. <br />Also present were Alex Kanareff, Engineer; C. J. Oviatt, Solicitor; <br />E. M. Christman, Clerk; and Alice Dobbins Treasurer. <br />Paul J. Gareau, Mayor; and Bruce MacDonald were absent. <br />The minutes of Juse 17th were approved as read. <br />The minutes of the adjourned meeting of Juns 23rd were approved as <br />read. <br />Ths Service Director reported hs had contracted to rent the County Drag <br />Line in the early part of February, but it has not base available as <br />yet. With the unsapl©yment situation as it is today, he recommended <br />hiring a crew; and with the back hoe and hand labor the job could be <br />accomplished as well - if not better - and the drag line could be cancelled <br />and people put to work. The cost of the project with hand labor would <br />not be any more costly than the rental of the Drag Lins. <br />The Service Director also requested the Finance Committee to make a study <br />of the rates of the City employees and bring them up to living standards. <br />The Safety Director reported a pay station was installed in the waiting <br />room of the Police Station which will net income to the City and a new <br />system to be installed at the Firs Stations, at an additional cost of <br />$36.60 per month, but which will leave all firemen available for duty in- <br />instead of a man having to be at the station for the phone. Tt was referred <br />to the Finance Committee for study. <br />Ths Safety Director reported the general activities of the Police Depart- <br />ment and the Firs Department for the month of June. <br />The Engineer reported he had submitted inspection reports for Theresa Lane <br />and the Tree Lane Subdivision, including Coe, Birch Lane and Oak Lane, <br />to the Service Director. <br />A communication was read from Mr. d. C. McClelland, Attorney for the <br />Comauaity Hospital, in which he submitted figures pursuant to the contract <br />from 1948 thru 1957, and appealed adoption of the resolution cad renewal <br />of the contract. <br />A communication was read from the North ©lmsted Junior Womena' Club <br />urging Council to place the Hospital Levy on the November ballot. <br />A communication was read from Mr. William R. Gerlaeh in which he pre- <br />sented figures upon investigation of the hospital issue. <br />A communication was rsag from the North Olmsted Womena' Club in which <br />they ask that the levy to support the Community Hospital be resubmitted. <br />A communication was read from the Kiwanis Ladies of North Olmsted requesting <br />the Hospital Levy be resubmitted. <br />A communication was read from the Kiwanis Club of North ©lmsted stating <br />that at a meeting of the Board of Directors a motion was made and carried <br />to have the Hospital Levy on the ballot to let the voters decide. <br />
