JULY 1, 1958 - PAGE 2
A communication was read from the High School P.T.A., recommending
North Olmsted resubmit the Hospital Levy on the ballot.
A communication was read from the North Olmsted Chamber of Commerce re-
questing Council to take no action permitting any commercial structure on
property located between Brookpark Road and Lorain, east of Canterbury,
until such time as proper drainage is established and sanitary sewers
are in operation for that area, as sewers at present are inadequate.
Attention should also be given to the type of structures in the immediate
vicinity, as the approach from the east over two main, highways may be
marred by buildings not in keeping with the new commercial area being
developed. Also, with Brookpark being a non-accessible highway, all
traffic from parking lots of commercial buildings would enter and exit
from and to Lorain Road, multiplied by the traffic situation with the
olening of the shopping center, and they asked cooperation so that definite
plans be formulated of commercial areas to create uniform and attractive
commercial areas.
The President of Council reported that under the new Rules of Council
the public may be heard when Council is considering a certain problem, by
indicating their interest and upon consent from Committee or Council,
nay prssent their opinions pertinent to the matter of discussion.
Mr. William R. Gerlach, 24854 Florence Avenue, from the audience presented
additional data and read a report of his investigation of the Community
Hospital correlative to the City of North Olmsted, and appealed to
Council to have the Levy placed on the ballot to enable residents to
vote on the issue.
Mr. F. B. Knowles, 23561 Mastick Road, a member of the Board of Trustees
of the Community Hospital, stated North Olmsted should provide the service
of the Community Hospital for its people for the security and welfare of
the community.
Mr. Kitson, from the audience, again presented facts and figures in op-
position to the Community $ospital Levy and appealed to Council to vote
against the ordinance.
Mr. Harvey Levy reiterated that the people should have an opportunity
to decide on the Community Hospital Levy.
Dr. Lewis also stated that the levy is definitely up to the people
to decide on.
Mr. Wilson stated the hospital issue in the November election was as
follows: Against - 1,994; For - 1,923;*missed by 71 votes or, approxi-
mately 10% of the vote. (Note-corrected; see below)
Mr. O'Neill reported he had met with the Drivers' Committe, uniform
specifications were submitted to the Solicitor and the ad is to appear
in the paper.
Mr. Hinkel reported that members of the Fire Department had requested
attendance at a meeting of the Civil Service Goamission. Mr. Miller
reported that upon request for specific information, by letter, to his
commission permission for attendance would be granted only for that
business requested.
Mr. Wilson reported regarding a meeting Saturday morning with Mr. Bauer,
Mr. Platters and Mr. Bishop and they agreed ~tra proceed with the surfacing
of Eleanore and Evelyn Drives. Also Monson-Williams had sent letters to
residents of Maria Lane advising that construction of that road would
commence by August 1st, 1958.
*Correction - par. 9 - to read: missed by 42'7 votes of obtaining
50% of votes.
