MAY 20, 195$ <br />MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, OHIO - $:16 P.M. <br />Present were Paul J. Gareau, Mayor; Ralph A. Hazelton, President of Council; <br />James Hinkel, Eddie Hixson, tn~m. H. Kramer, Mary Alice Lynch, James Wilson, <br />Lloyd E. Barnes, Service Director, and Carl F. Haettich, Safety Director. <br />Also present were C. J. Oviatt, Solicitor; E. M. Christman, Clerk. <br />Bruce MacDonald, Francis O~Neill, Alice Dobbins, Treasurer, and Everett Dean, <br />Engineer, were absent. <br />The minutes of May 7th were read and approved as corrected. <br />The Service Director reported regarding a remodeling job in the Bus Garage <br />creating an office for the Bus Superintendent. <br />The Service Director requested Councils approval to advertise for bids on <br />a tractor with a back-hoe and front-end loader, mainly for trenching and <br />ditch work. The cost of this equipment would be approximately X5,900.00. <br />The Safety Director requested some provision be made for an assistant to <br />the Building Commissioner in order that the Building Office can be kept <br />open during regular hours while the Commissioner is out on inspections to <br />supply contractors with permits and information. <br />The Safety Director reported twenty-seven radar arrests on May 20th. <br />A portable oxygen unit for use in the new Police Station Wagon was demonstrated. <br />The basic unit and extra cylinder, with case, is priced at X72.00. The cylinder <br />is priced at X15.00, with replacements at X1.50. The Safety Committee is to <br />determine how ma~q they would need or want. <br />The Safety Director also stated he would require other equipment for the new <br />station wagon, such as stretchers, etc. <br />Mr. Kramer is now present, <br />The Safety Director reported the Dog Warden had no equipment whatsoever to <br />catch dogs. <br />The Mayor reported he had received further information from the State of Ohio <br />with regards to the resurfacing of Lorain Road. Anew proposal is being <br />drawn up, but all facts have not been received. <br />The Mayor read a communication from the Chairman of the North Olmsted Planning <br />Commission, On April $th, the Planning Commission made the following recommenda- <br />tion: "Corner property on intersecting streets to Lorain Road be reviewed for <br />changing the ordinance to retail business of those parcels not now zoned, and <br />the distance East and West be determined by Council." This is to be reviewed <br />for change. <br />The Mayor reported the property of Mrs. Burtzloff at the Northeast Corner of <br />Brookpark and Claque Roads had been offered as a playground for the children <br />for the Summer, and a Skating Rink in the Winter. Mr. Norm Carlton offered <br />his equipment and services to clear the property, to give the children a place <br />to play. <br />It was suggested the Properties Committee meet with the School Board to <br />determine the status of the newly acquired playground property prior to the <br />building of schools and playgrounds. <br />The Mayor reported Coe School will be reactivated for Recreational Facilities, <br />The Building Commissioner reported permits in the amo~art of x$64.00, and <br />estimated building value at X439,940.00, <br />
