APRIL 1, 195$ <br />MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, OHIO - $:00 P. M. <br />Present were Paul J. Gareau, T~Tayor; Ralph A. Hazelton, President of Council; <br />James Hinkel; Eddie Hixson; Wm. H. Kramer; Mary Alice Lynch; Bruce MacDonald; <br />Francis O'Neill; James Wilson; and Lloyd E. Barnes, Service Director. <br />Also present were C. J. Oviatt, Solicitor; E. M. Christman, Clerk; and Everett <br />Dean, Engineer; and Alice Dobbins, Treasurer. <br />The minutes of March 1$th were read and approved. <br />The minutes of the adjourned meeting of :~Tarch 25th were read and approved as <br />corrected. <br />The Mayor read a communication to Earl W. Donaldson, Chief, North Olmsted <br />sire Department from i~irs. ?rjalter C. Mason, commending the Chief and members <br />of the firefighting and rescue organization. <br />The Mayor read a communication from the City of Cleveland Department of Law, <br />requesting representation at a meeting at the Cleveland City Hall, regarding <br />the proposed rate increase of the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company. <br />The Mayor reported fines for the month of February, received from the Rocky <br />Kiver Municipal Court amounted to $1,$14.00. <br />The T~iayor advised it was his policy to appoint in administrative capacity <br />persons qualified for a position, and he therefore appointed Carl Haettich. <br />as Safety Director for the City of North Olmsted. <br />It was moved by Mr. Hinkel, seconded by Mrs. Lynch, the appointment of Carl <br />Haettich as Safety Director be approved. "Yeas" HinTcel, Lynch, O'Neill, <br />Wilson. "Nays" Kramer, MacDonald, Hixson. <br />It was moved by Mr. O'Neill, seconded by Mr. Wilson, the Solicitor prepare <br />a Resolution commending Richard Donaldson and Theodore Culp. "Yeas" Hinkel, <br />Hixson, Kramer, Lynch, MacDonald, O'Neill, t~dilson. <br />Mr. HinTsel reported the Safety Committee met Friday, Tbiarc;h 2Sth, and discussed <br />a number of different points and made the following recommendations: <br />1. Stripe the curve of Lessner Road off Lorain Road, and post a <br />sign before the entrance on each side. <br />2. Asphalt and stripe Cohunbia Road, from Lorain to ~oois~rk.The <br />West side of the street is especially bad. <br />3. Post a speed limit sign of 35 miles per hour on Brookpark Road <br />before the entrance to Lorain Road to reduce speed of 50 miles <br />per hour allowed. <br />~,. Allandale Drive to be changed to Allandale Drive East and Allandal.e <br />Drive West for better identification as to location. This was <br />requested by Chief Donaldson. <br />5. Limitations or restrictions against the building of aluminum or <br />quonset but type of buildings. <br />In regards to Police Training, Mr. Patrick Gareau will train classes on all <br />phases of Police Training, and recommended uniformity of attire by Policemen <br />and Firemen. He also suggested Sergeants start one hour earlier before a <br />.change in shifts in order to familiarize themselves with. events transpired <br />before their shift. <br />Chief Christman requested preparations be made immediately to either rent or <br />buy a police car as the contract has run out on Car No. b3. The Safety <br />Committee is to meet with the Safety Director to determine the feasibility <br />of purchasing Car No. 63, contact Greyhound to see if an extension can be <br />made, and also consider the type of vehicle (Station ~r~agon, or Regular) to <br />be purchased or rented. <br />
