They also discussed ways of getting additional revenues - amusement tax, <br />permit fees for carnivals, inspeetion fees, etce <br />It is also recommended that an improved loud speaker system for the Council <br />chambers be installed, and a study is being made. <br />Mr. Manganl, Chairman of the Design and Platting Committee, reported that ori <br />recommendation from the Planning Commission to go ahead on the wfdening and <br />extension of Duane from Driscoll to Canterbury, they wlll ask that ?egislation <br />be prepared to begin the design and appropriation of land to accomplish this <br />extension of Duane, whlch will give another access to Pine School. <br />In the matter of Great Northern Boulevard proposed, from Brookpark to Lorairi, <br />the Commlttee is in agreement with the Mayor's recommendations to approve the <br />seven-lot cul-de-sacs on Linda, Randall and Lamont, start legislation necessary <br />to finance the program (including payment to Columbia Land of $20,000 for Izind <br />on the east side) and start appropriation proceedings to obtain land on the <br />west side. Legislation will be requested to accomplish these things. <br />On advice from the Engineer that the a deed for the cluster on Sands Subdivi- <br />sions Nos. I, 2, 3, and 4 has been recelved, the Committee approves the thir°d <br />reading of said legislation tonight. <br />Mr. Mangani, Chairman of the Public Parks, Property and Recreation CommitteE:, <br />reported that a design for the shelter at Clague Playground is being completed <br />and should be ready shortiy. <br />Mr. Ray Dykes, 25436 Kennedy Ridge Road, questloned Council about the exten-Ir <br />of sidewalk to be constructed in front of his house. He is to confer further <br />with the Mayor on the matter. <br />Mr. John Volk, 23474 Olmsted Drive, stated that the mosquito spraying by the <br />City was not being done frequently enough- to control the problem. He also <br />questioned when he would get some relief from his high water bills. <br />A lengthy discussion ensued with regard to spraying, the effectiveness of the <br />spray now being used, etc., with Mr. Edwin Heyduk, 29857 Lorain, an arboris-, <br />contributing some suggestions. It was brought out that continuous use of DDT <br />tends to produce a strain of mosquitoes which are resistent to the DDT, bufi <br />to alternate with malathion fio counteract this resistance, was not practical <br />because of the poisonous qualities of malathion and its possible effect on <br />people and animals. The matter will be studied. <br />Mr. Richard File, 4433 Lansing, asked what could be done abaut speeding on his <br />street, and whether stop signs could be installed at the corner of Lansing and <br />Oring.
