Page 3- June 21, 1966
With regard to the recent discussions on 4-foot vs. 5-foot sidewalks on
Alexander, a decision was reached to proceed on the basis of 5-foot walks,
and Mr. Germ, as spokesman for the area, was so notified by letter. The date
for obtaining sidewalk perrnits for Alexander was extended to July 14th, The
Committee feels that the four-foot sidewalk recentiy instalied in front of a
new home in thls area, without obtaining a permit, is a problem to be resolved
by the administration, and they recommend that some remedlal measures be takeri.
The Committee has recommended a minor alteration in the plans of the Kennedy
Ridge sidewaik. In the Bradley Road area, the Engineer is obtaining easements
in order to save about eight large trees.
With regard to the North Canterbury sanitary sewer installation, the Safety-
Service Director reports the total project cost will be about $130,000.
It was established that since the Phase 3 costs were established at $8.25 a
front toot, construction costs have risen about 12%, which will increase the
cost on Canterbury to $9.19. The Committee recommends that this cost be used
for this portion of the program, without increasing the tap-in charge of $99.00.
This will keep the City portion at about the same level it has been since the
inception of the sanitary sewer program.
Mr. Caster also reported that if Council approves Mr. Mangani's recommendatiori
on the Great Northern and Columbia Land Development area problem of cul-de-sacs,
they will request legislation for a Resolution of Necessity for Great Northerri
Boulevard between Brookpark and Lorain.
The Committee has requested Mr. West and Mr. Gerlach to give them a report on
the status of the finances of the sanitary sewer program, with respect to up-
dating our plans, specs and studies, and to update and elaborate on our storm
sewer report. If money is available, the Committee w111 recommend that these
studies be pursued.
Mr. Foltz, Chairman of the Legislative Committee, reported on their meeting of
June 16th. Police Chief Hird requested that they review the parking fine ticket,
which reads $3.00, and if not paid within 48 hours, $5. Parking in Fire Lanes
is $5, or if not paid within 48 hours, $10. The Codified Ordinances are specific
as to the penalties on fire-lane parking, but very general as to other parkinq
tines. Chief Hird would like more specific legislation.
With regard to the general organizational chart for the City, the summer inter•n
is working on this and bri'rrjng it up to date, after which President OtNeill arid
the Safety-Service Di,rector will meet to work on it further.
Mr. West, Chairman of the Finance Committee reported they held two meetings.
The main part of both was taken up with discussion with various employees oti
present salaries and hourly rates and trying to work on the preliminary 1967
budget which has to be prepared by next month.
