<br />MINUI'ES OF THE MEETING OF THE COU?JCIL <br />THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, OHIO <br />June 15, 1965 <br />8:20 P.M. <br />Present: Mayor Ralph E. Christman; President of Couneil Pro Tem Ylenry Caster; <br />Jack Foltz, Virginia Hodgins; James Leonard; Dewey Limpert; Alex Mangani; <br />John West, <br />Also present: Law Director J. Bruce Kitchen; Finance Director W. L. Gerlach; <br />Safety-Service Director Del Limpert; City Engineer Richard Labas; Clerk of <br />Council Margaret West, <br />Absent: President of Council Francis J. 0'NeiYl <br />The meeting was called to order at 8:20. Minutes of the last areeting were <br />approved as read. <br />Safety-Service Director Del Limpert reported that asphalt is being installed <br />at North Olmsted Park for the combined Safety-Town Program, basketball court <br />and ice rink, The baseball diamond is also being worked on. It is hoped that <br />it will be in good shape by the end of the week. <br />An article on cottony maple scale was given to the Council. A number of the <br />trees in the city are affected. <br />Negotiations are continuing for vacation of Elmhurst and Broxbourne for the <br />Cleveland Metropolitan Park Board. It is planned to put cul-de-sacs at the <br />end of the two streets, and suggested that the Park Board buy up two more <br />parcels of land in the aVea. <br />Mrs, Hodgins, Chairman of the Safety Committee, reported on their meeting. <br />They are considering installation of a traffic light at Cedar Point Road <br />and Columbia. This in turn may help with the traffic problem at Kennedy <br />Ridge and Columbia, <br />Mr, Leonard, Chairman of the Swimming Pool Committee, reported that they <br />met with Charlotte Phillips, who is in charge of the Learn-To-Swim Program, <br />and several other women interested in the program. They proposed a schedule <br />of activities publicizing the proposed swimming pool which they felt would <br />help in getting the vote. They intend to do most of the work at Homecoming, <br />with a float in the Homecoming Parade, and appropriately costumed young <br />ladies circulating around the midway. They will arrange for information <br />to be carried in the,two local papers and the Cleveland papers, They intend <br />to form a speakers' bureau. In the fall, with the cooperation of the PTA <br />and the School Board they intend to send literature home with report cards <br />to the parents, They have also suggested window-painting contests and posters <br />in the Shopping Center. It is intended that the PTA street mathers would <br />contact each individual home. The pool is to be a minfmum of 75 feet, cost <br />not more than $350,000 and would be attached ta the high school, but controlled <br />by the City, <br />The 5wimming Pool Gommittee of Council recommends that steps be taken to <br />ascertain whether the question can be put on the ballot in the fall. <br />w __
