Page 2 m F'ebruary 2, 1965 <br />Mr. Leonard, Ghairman, Publir Utilities Gcmmit?ee, r°eported a meeting of his <br />committee at whfch garbage and rubbish disposal was dascussed, The Committee <br />feels that the City should move in the direction of yomposting materfals, <br />rather than stay with the landfill operation, or b«oome involved with an <br />incinerator. They request a meeting with Council as a whole, if Gouncil <br />feels it is time to do this, They are seeking information from nther cities <br />as to ithefr experiencese The. Committee izas agreed that to level aff the <br />amount of garbage and rubbisln being put in the lanPi fill, they will ask <br />for incinerator? on all new residences unless Councfl is against it. Twenty- <br />two eommunities irn the County right now have sue.h an 3rdinance, <br />Mr, West9 Chairman, Finance Gommittee, reported then mei January 25fh on the <br />following: The Bus lines request for a n(ew garage or an addition to the <br />garage, fQur new buses, and an increase En pay f?? the mecchanics, The Finance <br />Gommittee is recommends.ng the gurcha?e of two new busese and legfslation has <br />been prepared, Th2y are recommending the ra?.se for the b?ss me?.hani?.se <br />In addition, the Finance Committee d°??cussed with the Finance Director the <br />authorization needed to operate in 19659 and borrowings for sidewaiks and water <br />linese <br />The Committee discussed membership in the Regbonal Flanning Commission, cost- <br />ing $910 a year9 and recommend that t;his be placed in the Budget, and that the <br />Mayor be authorized to have the City jmin the Regfonal Planning Commission, <br />A request by the Servfce Department far radid equipment for their vehicles was <br />considered, and fs recommended. Legislatian is being fntroduced tonight, <br />They also recommend td Council that the Service Dfrector be authorized to <br />spend $200 for the Safety Award DEnner far the bus drivers and tlheir wives. <br />Mre Mangani, Chairman, City Planning Committee, reported that the Planning <br />Commission recommends approval of the Nudelman hi-rise at Gessner and Lorain <br />and legislatian will be requested for rezonfnge <br />The Public Parks, Property and Recreation Committ.ee, of which Mr. Mangani is <br />also chairman9 met wath the, Excfiange Cluta and Recreaitimn Commission, regarding <br />the Exchange Clutb basebalY pa°ogram, which c,ras outl Lned, and plans made for <br />use af arsr diamonds. One more, diamond is needed, and the City and E2ecreation <br />Department are working thas oute <br />The Committee also met with the Mayor°s Secretary and the ServECe Dir.ectcar to <br />discuss the grotslems of the. Gommunity Cabin rates. T"hey have a tentative <br />schedule set upg but will ho1d anotY:er meeting on the matter, <br />The same Commfttee met with the Sc;hocl Board for a discussfon of dispcasition of <br />the ten-acre parcel on Dover Road which the Gfty purchaseci some time aga and <br />whfch is adjacent to schoal property. It had been agreed that at such time as <br />the Schoo1 Board needed the parcel9 the Gity wouYd transfer it ta theme They <br />have agreed to acombined ruse for school and recreation purposes, T°he City has <br />agreed to deed ten acz°es to the School Board in return for deed restrietions <br />that the area be used for recreation, T'he School Board is to spend $15,000 <br />for recreation improvementse In addition, there is a lat on Saeetbriar which <br />the City agreed to cunvey.
