There <br />is also a need f.or additional people in the Fire Department. <br />The apolication :n reg<.id''to helicopter operation has been withdrawn, <br />but there m3y be some i2eca applications, and the matter is being <br />5tudied. The FAA has requested that we submit any proposed legis- <br />lation in this regard to them for review. <br />Previously the committee had recommended that legislation be prepared <br />banning parking on both sides of Brendan Lane on Sundays from 9:00 A.M. <br />to 2:00 P.M. After th?a I.,asr; D_i.ree.tcr raisLd aquestxon aLour a penal.ty <br />for violation, the committe_e is recommending that tYre pena1ty incor-- <br />porated on the pari:lri.g r1;,ket be used, and that 1eg1_>1_a=:iE,n so stating <br />be prepared, <br />The Committee has studied briefly the malGer of Frank Street and whether <br />a turn-around or expansion could be worked out„ The Safety-Service <br />Director has agreed to check before any recommendations are made. <br />Mrs. Hodgins called attention to a bill pending in the House of Renre- <br />sentatives which proposes to take Social Security money which we pay <br />and distribute it on the basis of nieed, as opposed to the present system <br />of getting what you pay in. It also proposes to levy income taxes <br />on the benefits paid. The Committee asks that a resolution be passed <br />voicing our opposition to this proposed legislation, and directed to <br />the proper people. <br />Mr. West, Chairman of the Finance Committee, reported an their meeting <br />held on June 19th at which time they agreed to pay $41,000 toward resur- <br />facing Lorain Road. They also crill ask for legislation establishing <br />the position of Secretary of Commissions and establishing pay. They <br />also recommend legislation authorizing purchase of an auto for the <br />Sewage System Superintendent. The Committee has received and is study- <br />ing the last of the budget requests for 1968. A proposed ordinance <br />has been prepared and will be discussed at the special meeting to be <br />held on June 26th. <br />Mr. Mangani, Chairman of the Design and Platting Committee, reported <br />they met on June 8th and studied the town house proposed for Clareshire <br />Drive. They also reviewed the preliminary plat of the Normandy Apartments <br />which was approved by the Planning Commission and is before Council. <br />The Committee concurs with the Planning Commission and recommends that <br />Council approve this preliminary plat. <br />Mr. Mangani, Chairman of the Public Parks, Property and Recreation, <br />: reported they met on June 13th. A number of representatives from the <br />Clague Road Playground entrance met with the committee with complaints <br />on the speeding cars, dust, noise, etc. As soon as the building trades <br />strike is settled, permanent work can be done. Meanwhile, the Safety- <br />Service Director is to use dust control, etc. Work should be completed <br />by the end of July. <br />!?. <br />_? ,
