Public Hearing 4-27-70
Page -2-
Mr. James Lynch, 3903 Dover Center Road, stated the talk about not going to
get a lot more traffic on Dover is a lot of baloney. He stated in addition,
you are putting a great big curve into Great Northern Shopping Center, bring
the traffic onto Lorain again, only to bring it in at a right angle instead
of on an angle. The only thing it is obstructing now is the Bank and gas station.
The traffic between Dover and Brookpark will be just as large, and the only thing
that Dover Road is going to get is that much more traffic of trucks that are
going to come down there and wonder which way to turn - left or right. He ques-
tioned what do we want more trucks for. He also asked if this is to be a four
lane highway of the extension of Brookpark, or two-lane.
Mayor Christman answered the extension is proposed for four lanes. At the
present time it would be constructed with two lanes with third lanes at the
intersections that are proposed.
Mrs. Wm. Lambert, Ashbury Park, if the people in Pine Ridge whose property is
butting up against this have been considered, and what is this going to do to
their properties.
Mayor Christman replied it has been considered and this is the reason for this
meeting.
Mr. West commented that for those who are back there, there will be a 50 foot
buffer zone and the Ordinance requires that the last 20 feet of this has to be
landscaped on any commercial property.
Mr. Fred Ha.ttorm, 5204 Porter Road and Officer of North Olmsted Baptist Church,
stated this is going to bring the traffic right out in front of the Church and
property. He stated we have enough traffic right now, and questioned if any
of the gentlemen noticed the traffic since the school is in, with buses, cars
and children walking down there. He does not think this is going to help the
p rob lem.
President 0'Neill questioned if a survey has been made in that area.
Mr. D. Ernest, 30106 Lorain Road, asked why is it necessary to rezone this
property to commercial if Brookpark is extended to Dover, and why is this
not an Ordinance.
Mr. West replied you do not need an Ordinance. A public hearing on the building
of a roadway and the rezoning is what the issue is tonight, and the extension is
contingent on the rezoning for the reason that developers in there said that
they would pay for the street and all of the improvement at no expense to the
City if it would be rezoned commercial.
Unidentified person asked who are the developers,.
Mr. West answered there were several.
President 0'Neill stated we are hearing the people in the audience who are in
opposition to Ordinance 69-220 at the present time. When we conclude this
IV portion of the meeting, then we will go to the people who are in favor if there
are any in the audience.
