• ,Public Hearing 4-27-70
Page -3-
Mr. West stated he would like the question answered. Mr. Karhan replied the
developers are Dan Mathews of Capitol National Bank, A. Klein, Trustee for
Brookhauser and Sparky DiBenetto. The Shopping Center developers are Biskind
& Shur. Mr. West stated the Shopping Center developers are not a part of this
development and have nothing to do with the rezoning. Mr. Karhan said that is
correct - the part we are considering now is the part owned by Spark DiBenedetto.
Mr. Wil Bailess, Ashbury Park, referred to Annual Report and Mayor's statement
on ecology. He asked Mayor Christman how can we have a philosophy of politics
of ecology and come out with something like this.
Mayor Christman stated he thought Mr. Bailess was referring to his statement
and he repeated it, i.e., "Today's politics is a politics of ecology". Mayor
Christman stated it is also the politics of getting things done, and he is not
one that thinks you can just sit back and keep the statusquo and solve these
problems. He said he did not think the extension of this road has as much to
do with problem of ecology. Mayor Christman thinks this is a problem of
natural growth of North Olmsted.
Mr. Bailess, Ashbury Park, asked if we are trying to solve suburban problem
of today on yesterday's thinking. He cannot see this solving any problem
except putting more traffic on schools and churches on Dover Center.
Mr. West asked to hear ideas of Mr. Bailess in trying to solve these problems
of traffic and what cities should be doing besides building roads. Mr. Bailess
stated some form of subsidized bus service, sidewalks on eastern side of Dover
cross-walks on Lorain.
Mr. Flutterick, 4595 Ashbury Park, asked why the rezoning is based upon a
traffic survey, and referred to a remark made that extension is contingent
upon rezoning.
Mr. West answered the traffic survey was made several years ago and was made
without any regard to rezoning or anything else in the City. Insofar as why
the rezoning and Brookpark Extension is tied in is that the City does not have
the money and do not have the tax power right now to extend Brookpark Road.
The developers have said if this is rezoned we will relieve the City of this
expenditure and do it. This is the reason for the rezoning.
Mr. Flutterick, 4595 Ashbury Park, if the survey was made several years ago
it is outmoded, outdated and outlawed as of today.
Mr. West said this was the original proposal several years ago and since that
time the new agency, NOACA and Regional Planning Commission, as late as a year
ago, recommended this extension.
Mr. J. Salvatori, 4575 Ashbury Park, stated there is considerable property on
Lorain Road where business are dormant and properties dillapidated. He feels
that property should be improved before more vacant land is opened up to
develop new businesses. Questioned if developers could be influenced into
buying property on Lorain.
President 0'Neill stated that is a difficult question to answer. He stated
