Public Aearing 4-27-70 Page -4-
the people we are talking to at the present time have the property in this area.
Whether they would be interested in buying elsewhere is something else, but the
reason for this meeting tonight is to hear all of your objections to the
Ordinances and then we will decide at the next or subsequent meeting what action
to take.
Mr. C. Conerly, 4996 West Park, spoke in behalf of North Olmsted Baptist Church,
also West Park Civic Association, stating they are opposed to the rezoning of
Brookpark Road. He thinks that the Stearns Road interchange will take care of
traffic and save taxpayers expense of building and paying for another highway.
He feels it will also keep the traffic more centrally located.
Jeanette Perry, Ashbury Park, wished to voice her vote against the rezoning.
She feels if this traffic survey was made sometime ago, and if it were so
important for this road to go through, why has the City waited until three
developers were kind enough to give us this road that is so badly needed. In
addition, there will be a four-lane highway very close to their homes. She
can hear the traffic on Lorain in summer now; also Mrs. Perry said when a bond
issue comes up, the City wants the support of the people, and if people care
about their community and they feel the City cares about them, they will support
these bond issues. If the City shows the people that they don't care about
them - that they are going to put a road through that some kind developers are
giving the City, and as far as she can see benefits nobody but the developers,
then she doesn't see why the people should care when it comes to voting for
bond issues.
Mr. West stated he would like to say that we do care, and that is why we are
having a Public Hearing and are listening to what is being said and trying to
consider all angles of this.
Mr. E. Timothy, 29863 Broxbourne, stated he was mainly interested in the cost
to the taxpayers. Questioned pavement on Canterbury being increased to concrete;
cost of plugging gas wells on properties to the north of Lorain going to be
taken care of by developers; also asked if road through Shopping Center going
to be increased to concrete and who will take care of this.
President 0'Neill stated as far as Canterbury Road at this particular time he
does not believe there are plans for resurfacing.
Mayor Christman answered as far as the Shopping Center - this would not be at
the City's expense nor would plugging of gas wells.
Mr. Timothy asked if taxpayers will not have to pay for any of the changes at
anytime. President 0'Neill stated that at this particular time Canterbury Road
would not be improved but at a later date, in the event it would be improved,
naturally it would be paid for by the City - indirectly the taxpayers.
Mr. G. Schmidtke, 26705 Leenders Lane, asked if this is rezoned what will be
put directly behind him.
Mr. West answered there will be some sort of a commercial development and defined
commercial as retail business and it will not be apartment of office buildings,
